29g setup

oh and I was gone for a couple weeks and came back to see my tank looking like a swear word that I can't type :( Yes I'll post a picture of it.... even though it's :o

Major cleaning tonight and then will put in the vortech.

It's a dotty back. An arabian dottyback (Pseudochromis aldabraensis)

water tests before the water change.

ph 8
calc 385
nitrate 0 (did the test twice to double check result)
dKH 7.7

My new fish came out and ate some frozen marine cuisine. He also eyed my pep shrimps and chased my cleaner shrimp.

well I only spent a half hour or so on it last night. Got tired and my arm was tired.

and after. I took the pic after after I pulled the pump tonight. Still work to do on it.

Junk I pulled from the tank. I ended up pulling the rock w/hair algae on it. I need to order more CUC. I don't have an adequate amount.

Tonight my mj 1200 pump quit working on my dual bakpak skimmer. Was only running 1 pump. It was taking water but not air and I think it was clogged w/salt creep. It's soaking in a vinegar bath now.

I think my new cleaner has bit the dust already. Can't find it. Maybe my dottyback ate it?

I'm looking at ordering:

I decided just a little bit ago that I'm pulling the dottyback already. My cleaner shrimp is missing and I can tell it's very mischevious. It swims up to my critters and seems to be thinking about how to attack them. I don't like it. It will swim up to and eye my pepperment shrimps getting so close they jet away from it, was having a go at a small hermit crab and was even biting at the feet of my LARGE nassarius snails.

That's a bummer about your dottyback - can you find it a good home, or do you have another tank to put it in?

Hook up that Vortech yet?!

I just offered it for sale on my local club site. If I can't find it a good home it'll go to the lfs, hopefully for some credit.

It's an MP10 and should be more than adequate for a 29g. At full speed it'll do 50x tank turnover.

I haven't put it in yet, have been reading over the instructions. May put it in tonight after the kids are in bed. We have a snow day today(or windchill day), but I don't like to mess with the tank when the kids are up.

awesome!, im really interested in buying a MP10 and ditching my K1's. please post a video if you can of the mp10 in action.. i have yet to see a vid of one in a 29 gallon tank!

no problem. I'll post a video. However, it probably won't happen tonight. I forgot the BCS Championship is tonight. Tomorrow we're driving a little ways to pick up a tank leaving the kids w/grandma and grandpa. Hopefully this weekend. Too much going on.

I haven't ordered my CUC yet and am thinking about ordering from Reefcleaners.org. Thinking about 10-20 dwarf cerith and a few nerite snails.

hey, i remember reading a while back that some of the snails reporduce. are any of the ones you plan on getting known for such? renewing CUC would be awsome...also im a cheap *** where i can be

when i first set up my tank i had small snails that came with the LR i bought, and little by little i would notice more and more of all sizes so they were reproducing like crazy.... and then i bought an arrow crab to take care of my bristle worms.. but he decided to wipe out the entire colony of snails in my tank... the arrow crab is long gone now..

Bahh! I killed another fish :( Caught my arabian to take him out and he was stuck to the powerhead intake the next morning. I put him in a 5g bucket w/a small peice of lr. I think the ph was to strong for him. I only had about a gal or 2 of water in it. Poor fishy :(

Your fish asphyxiated in the bucket. Without water movement across the top, no oxygen will enter the water. It may have taken a day or two, but the fish used up all the oxygen. Without it, fish die.

With water movement at the water's surface, the water molecules bounce around and "grab" oxygen molecules that are abundantly zinging through the air.
