was thinking of testing my floor joists by measuring there heigth and building 2 wooden tanks and filling each with 1000 gal then remeasuring the joist sag.
afci breakers are newer and not required except in the beedroom in new homes in some states and they can be diffitult but do offer protection from arcing and not just shorts.
I'm currently starting a new build with some similarities. I'm currently waiting for delivery of a AO built tank measuring 74"x48"x32". The tank will have an external overflow at one end.
While the image doesn't show it, the tank will be eurobraced.
Here is a photo of where the tank will be hopefully be installed if I can get it into the room.
The sump and supporting equipment will be housed in a roughly 10' x 15' room in the basement. To be on the safe side I did support the floor in the basement. I know its overkill, but I supported all four corners of the tank with laminated beams and four floor jacks. To me the low cost, and reassurance of this thing not falling through my floor is a no brainer.
"spinny would you be able to visit me? i need all the ideas/help i can get."
Not sure if I can be of any help to you, but feel free to PM me with your contact information.
WOW how in the world do you have time to do anything that many tanks and your wanting to add 2 more :eek1: .Here's just a thought about your tanks I would scale them down just a little for better veiwing, easier maintance,or you can really have 1 nice tank with all the bells and whisles because unlike your other tanks that you have setup you really want to be able to sit back with a beverage of choice in a recliner of coarse and enjoy your reef tank because thats one of the best parts of the saltwater half of this hobby is to just sit and enjoy all the beatifull colors and move ment that you get in a reef. If you really need 2 more tanks I looked at the drawing that Discustopia did and it would be the best choice if you did 2 tanks but I would just do 1 so you can have better viewing center it in the room make it 10'x36"x30" rimless with center overflow then you would have 5 veiwing sides.I think it cool what your trying to do but the room isn't big enough for that size of tanks it look like your trying to cram the titanic into a bath tub.So I hope my 2cents doesn't offend you but we're all here just trying to help you get the best thing out of your project
I really like the idea of either one huge tank in the middle or two large tanks back to back in the center of the room. Either way you have water in the middle and have plenty of viewing space all around.
There are so many possibilitys a person could go with. Its just trying to find out the right combination that will work with you and your family the best
