3 tank,2600 gal. system room build

ron- did you see all the arc fault combination breakers in my new panel? any thoughts? tanks will be starfire on 3 sides. nice power figures, i had no idea.

What size is the main/master breaker? Mine's 100A, which means total power draw at any one time for everything in the house can't exceed 100A. You may need a second line run to the house if my numbers are correct. Here's my method:

6x400W Metal Halides per tank for 6 hours/each = 2400W*6hrs=14,400W/hrs or 14.4kW/hrs per day for metal halides per tank. Multiple by $0.16 to convert to dollars if that's what your electricity costs. I also budgeted for actinic supplementation of 600W total per tank for 10 hours/day.

Then closed loop I figured 150W per closed loop pump for 24 hrs/day. I also figured return pumps, the skimmer based on your figures, and "other."

Ron

master breaker 200 amps. reef tank only-lighting, thinking of 2 six foot fixtures and 2 four foot. 6 footers- 3- 250w mh+8 t5 at 39w each. four foot t5 only mabe 12- 39w bulbs each. circulation 8 vortech at 28 watts each. return pump 250 watts. skimmer about 500 watts. ele. .11/kw.power cost.

Can you build a custom light rack like Ed Reef in his build thread? The reflectors will be more efficient and your total cost would almost certainly be lower. Plus it will look much better. Someone else is going to have to comment on 250W vs. 400W, but I think it will in large part have to do with what you want to stock with.

How are you planning to light the fish only tank?

Ron

I am wondering that myself. I think it may have been to much for his floor I think he may put the tank in the livingroom now I am not sure.

sorry to here about this dean, guess we should not second guess the engineer, huh
any thoughts to add cross support with beams in basement, or are we looking another design.
Brian

looking into putting 1 tank inwall in livingroom. crossbracing in basement is also an option. going to let 17000 pounds of sand work on floor for 1 more week then measure and remove it. i never knew a couple of little tanks could be such a problem.

got last shipment from tbs lots of cool stuff. nina and lunn are looking confused trying to program vertech pumps. 75 gal tank. took me an hour to redo programing on pumps.

dean:lol:
how much did the floor sag so far be honest, I didn't recall you haveing any room in the LR for a built in. I still think you could do one large tank in the test room, keep us posted.

I am not an engineer but won't that amount of deflection create havoc in the adjoining rooms by pushing up on walls, etc?
