300g Starphire Room Divider

A little more progress on the tank and the plumbing. I was having problems with the lack of space I have on the side of the tank where all the plumbing and the closed loop pumps are. I wanted the closed loop pump and the Gen-X PCX 55 pump to be up as far as I could get them so I will not loose much head. It should be worth the extra effort:D

The area will have a access door on the side and the whole stand both sides will be drywalled in. My return pump and sump will still be located in the basement.

We got the braces on the tank also installed the small overflow box but still have to get black plexi around it. Also got the Starboard in.

Here are a few pics of the progress.

That glass is soooo clear.:D

On a CL system there is theoretically no head to overcome. There is though induced head from the pipes. I wouldn't worry too much about how low the pumps are, but try to have the right size pipes combined with very few sharp turns.

BTW, maybe you should get ozone so you can clearly see through the tank when there is water in there.

True but I will not have the doors anymore on the stand since it will be drywalled in around the stand. I figured putting them on the side of the stand will be better then running them from the basement. I would just loose to much. This should work out well.

Thanks for the spa flex much easier to work with then hard PVC.

Thanks,

A bit more progress on the tank. Finished the 4-Way plumbing. Have the lines run for the enductors just have to put them on.

aural,

Thanks....

littlesilvermax,

Yep I figured I have the room so why not use them all! :)

mikeo1210,

Yes I thought it looks much better then having white PVC. Since I have black sides on the tank.

I was testing the Penductors with the Gen-X Pcx55 pump. Wow shoots all 8' across the tank then comes back under. I moved the pump however just under the living room floor. The fan on it was to loud.

I made a nice cover from some leftover black plexi I had from my overflow. This should keep splashing and noise to a minimum.

Here is how I did my overflow pipes (Dursos).

For the dursos it looks like you drilled a hole in the end caps and installed a small ball valve to control air intake. Correct? Do they whistle? How do you like this setup?

Thanks. I will be installing similar weirs and bulkheads on two tanks.

Yes I used JG RO fitting for the air control. Not sure how it works yet? It should work just fine, I had a similar fitting on my old tank.

I see you are in Winnipeg also. Where do you shop SWC? What tanks are you going with?

min9a,

It was built on site in my living room. A LFS called Saltwater Connection ordered my 2 Starphire panes. The owner and I put it together.

Nice job......

Those overflows look sweet......... I like the fact that the overflows don't take up a lot of room in the tank.... What size diameter drains do you have in each overflow? The overflows in my new 400 gallon tank look huge compared to yours..... I like your layout better......

Did you have any issues getting the 4 way to work with the Penducters? I thought Oceans Motions units did not work with Penducters......

Keep us posted...... Nice work.....

hdtvguy, I use SWC and Fish Gallery and also the folks at http://www.myfreebulletinboard.com/f/index.php?mforum=wsaff&

I am fairly new to salt but am putting a room divider in my basement. It will be two tanks back to back - a 180 and a 135. The 180 will be a reef and the 135 will be FOWLR. Right now I have about 180 lbs of rock and a few critters in a 90, getting ready for the other tanks.

Have you found a good place locally to get MH lights locally?

Thanks,

That is why I went with this design. I have 2 1.5" drains. I'm not running the 4 way on Pens. I run a separate pump for them a Gen-X Pcx-55. They move some serious water!

jeno,

Sounds like you will have a nice setup. Reef and Fowlr back to back sweet! As for the MH lighting go see Jayson @ SWC he is going to be getting in some nice systems at a great price. I think he has put the order in already.

wow nice setup. can't believe the pictures on the step by step work. btw on your returns you have two blue pipes or something, i was wondering if those were reducing the flow to get more backpressure? or just for looks =) looks really cool heh.

daphaze1,

Thanks those are not my returns with the blue things on them. Those are penducters. They are run by a separate pump. My return is a 1.5" pipping on the other side of the tank.

One question since I'm about to build my own tank as well.

When the siliconing was done did you use a standard size silicone cartridge or the bigger contractor size?

I am thinking the contractor size would be better because it would allow a bigger bead, but I can't find this size in silicone at the local HD.

Just used the standard GE II construction silicone normal size. Just cut the end off the tip further down. This will give you more then enough.
