336 A.G.E. Peninsula Tank

that's a nice display same goes for sump, where exactly are the scratches? you get to sleep with the fishes, how cool is that :D

Are you going to try and buff out the scratches? I put a 2 foot long scratch on the front-side glass when it was new. I buffed it out with toothpaste and a dremel + buffing wheel. It took a few hours, but it was worth it...cleaning up the toothpaste off the floor and cabinets afterwards, well that sucked :D

I will start plumbing this week but my GF is in town for spring break so I will have to finish next week and start filling then. I am going nuts. I have already started scoping out wood for the stand and canopy and I think I am going to be building it out of Red Oak. It should hold a nice dark stain to match my living room furniture.
Priorities man, priorities!!

Cbui- The long scratch is fortunately in a spot that I can cover up with trim fairly easy, its on the right hand side of the tank at the bottom. The other scratch is about 3in down from the top in the main pain, its fairly thin about about an inch long. It fortunately is on the outside of the glass so it won't collect crap and will be fairly inconspicuous when full of water.

Sleeping with the fishies was really peaceful until I flooded my house one day, now if the tank shuts off or makes some weird noise I am up in two seconds. I really like the moon lights in the tank at night. :) I almost never want to fall asleep cause I keep staring at the tank.

tbone- hmmmm you might have something there with the toothpaste. I just fear making it worse.

stdreb- she does teach for America and was assigned to the Rio Grand Valley which is about 6 hours from here so I will take advantage of seeing her now instead of having to make that 6hr drive. I waited 9 months to get where I am at now, I will last a week longer. Plus I ordered more ball valves from savko so I have to wait for those suckers to come in.

I sat next to some chick that does Teach for America on the airplane last month doing the SW cattle flight. She wasn't in Tulsa last month was she?

My roomate makes fun of me because I'll randomly pop out of my room and check my tanks. and make sure nothing's leaking.
It is great watching a tank while you go to sleep. And my fiance wonders how I sleep so well.

stdreb- Nope shes never even been to tulsa.

tbone- I had thought about using it previously as a rubbing compound on a tank before. Just watch out for leaving swirls in the glass.

Great looking tank and sump! That will be an awesome way to get to sleep, if you can for looking at the scenery when it fills out.

Red Oak would make a beautiful stand and canopy for the tank two. I love it, especially when it's stained with Golden Oak.

Oh yeah now you can complete this: ;)

I suppose the only waiting I will have is for the Girl Friend to come into town so I can take the classic caged girlfriend picture. She told me I wasn't allowed to fill it till the picture is taken :(

cbui- you would think so, but where there is a will there is a way and water has the best motivational speaker ever: Gravity.

Bart- The sump is designed to handle the overflow from my tank and an additional overflow tank that will be added at a later point. The only way I can overflow the sump is if the R/O dumps to much water into the sump, and the top off tank will only hold a max of 50g. The tank will only really have maybe a 1/2in higher water height. The teeth are tall enough to support an 1.5in wave in the tank :) so I can place 2x tunze waveboxes in it at a later point.

Not worried about flooding :)

I spoke with Greg from reefgeek today to get some more dimensions about the skimmer. I was worried about clearance with the top of the skimmer and the drain on the closed loop, that skimmer is 28in. high so I have to watch it. Greg also told me that the bottom of the new skimmers is removable so that you can clean in thoes hard to reach spaces.

So things have been moving a bit slow since I got the tank because the GF was on spring break so I was hanging out with her. Now I have a chance to get some work done. Today was a bit of expensive day, I ordered ball valves and loc-line fittings for the tank. Ouch!

I was actually productive today, I decided to go with a 1/2in sheet of poly-ethylene to line the stand. This way I will never have to strip and reseal a piece of plywood every few years, definitely worth the extra cost. I picked up the sheet and cut out inserts for the legs using a jigsaw. Sunday I enlarged the holes using a base on my drill and a drum sanding bit. I also got my chiller in, this thing is a beast, 1.5in fittings all around and it weights a good bit. It's a 1/2hp tradewind inline, I think the compressor on that thing could cool my place :) well it should based on how heavy that sucker is.

I also got in my new 150GPD RO dual DI unit, this way it only takes 3 days to fill the tank instead of 4 :) I discovered while trying to hook it up that the valve on my washer leaks when I shut it off makes things interesting when your trying to add a adapter.

As soon as the ball valves come in this sucker is getting plumbed. I est. that I should be able to do a test fill by Sunday, pending everything goes according to plan. I should also be getting my salt in this week or the first of next week.

So much for my plans of having the tank full of water this week, I just got off the phone with Savko and they didn't have enough ball valves to fill my order so I will have enough to plumb the Returns but not the closed loop, to make things worse the valves are on backorder. Sounds like it will be almost 3 weeks before I will have the rest of my order :( I might just plug off the closed loop and test fill it anyway. :) It will give me a chance to work on the skin and the canopy I suppose.
