470 Gallon Mixed Reef - nuxx Reef

Spent a few hours last night building covers for the tank.

Used Home Depot 60" Screen Kit and Bulk Reef Supply 1/4" Netting.

Ended up spraying them black with some Krylon Fusion, since there were some scratches from cutting and moving along the tile.

The Kessil gooseneck adapters and power cords stopped me from being able to cover the backs of openings. Ended up using some small tubing zip tied to the screen to cover that gap. Just used no tubing where the adapters were.

Screens are held is place with small pieces of 2 sides Velcro on the corners.

Also used some black egg crate to cover the overflow. Zip tied the netting over the egg crate to close up the 1/2" openings. Then used some tubing to make it snug against the return lines.

Fish should be going in this afternoon from our first batch of quarantine. One Tomini Tang (Hope he likes Diatoms) and a trio of Pajama Cardinals.

Tomin Tang and mated trio of Pajama Cardinals are in the tank now :)

Been almost two and half years chasing a big tank, so it's a pretty nice feeling to have fish in ;)

Just realize I'm going to need a lot of fish in this size tank...

They are a bit shy, so this is the best shot I can get of anything...

Great job on the tank. The Kessil 360e have lots of shimmer. That is some nice spread also. Cant wait for corals.

Thanks will probably order the first coral when I order the next batch of fish for QT. Maybe some smaller SPS frags. I have some coral to move over from my small tank, but I'll do that when those fish move over. Will be around 2 months from now.

Just need to see how long I can hold off before ordering more fish for QT. It'll be a big order, so trying to give my wife a break from my tank spending lol

Thanks guys :)

I'm really happy with the Kessils!

Great support as well. Noticed one of the three had a clicking noise (like something hitting the fan).

Called them up and they're sending me a replacement, just need to send mine back when I get the new one :)

Just ordered a small clean up crew from John @ Reef Cleaners

Also bought some Chaeto from him for the sump :)

Going to add some big turbo snails in a bit as well...

I might have a problem...

Need a few more parts before I can get these other two QT tanks running in time for the new fish. Also have an old 55 gallon with 3 fish it in as well.

Not sure my wife is too excited...

BTW: That table is just holding tank supplies on it... we're not using the room hahah

Video of the tank today:

Showed up fine for me. It's a good start, but needs some corals... ;)

Haha I know... and my wife is already mad about the fish costs :P

Can't wait till we start buying coral. I have some I'm going to move over, but nothing that'll make a dent in the tank.

Where is that line going from your skimmer air intake? Almost looks like it's going into the water?

Great looking tank!

It's a few inch's above the water line in the sump.

Wedged between the skimmer output pipe and the sump's bracing.

Just found it to be quieter like that :)

Really impressive build, Peter. 10 feet is just an amazing thing all by itself. How did the tile floor hold up? What steel did the stand builder use? Looks like 2.5" to possibly 3"? What wall thickness?

I'm along for the ride...
