47G SPS...Revamp

What bulb combo are you running these days ?
Currently running 4 Coral+, 2 Actinic and 2 PacSun CystalBlue.

Hi Sahin, are you still experimenting PacSun for your buddy? Any more insight as compared to ATI hybrid?
Hi Bernie. Still running the Pacsun.

Had a little setback lately though, so the Pacsun will be on the tank for a few more months at least.

Somehow my bloody refractometer messed up...so my water has had low SG for some weeks...:headwally:

I mentioned one small STN issue a few posts up...well I bought calibration fluid and discovered my water has been at 1.022-1.023...:eek2: Checked with another tanks water too...definitely low SG.

As for the difference between the two units, I'd say not much. Both are mainly T5 driven rather than being LED.

Anyway, I'm glad I caught the issue at hand. I hope the corals colour up better with the water issue fixed.

Is 1.022-1.023 really an 'issue'?
Where do you keep it usually?
My tank has been at 1.023 for months, because by the time I do my wc the skimmer has pulled it down a bit and then it bumps up a point when the wc is performed.
I'll try to bring it up to 1.025, but I've never really been concerned by a sg of 1.023...

+1
My tanks be at 1023-1024 ever.

My sps aren't really affected; other than possibly the one that STN'd. There are some old threads from years back that do talk of some sps issues due to low salinity etc.

I can say that my one chalice does show some tissue loss on the edge. I'm hoping with the increased SG back upto 1.025-1.026 will sort that out. Will let you know if it recovers.

I agree, that SG should be fine. Some areas of Indonesia have lower SG such as that all the time.

There are threads old and new supporting all sorts of misinformation on RC.

The worlds oceans / reefs range in salinity and many change with season. A quick rise can be detrimental, a slow lowering as likely happened with your tank, should have no significant effect.

I've studied the same corals growing in Darwin's reserve which has an annual rainfall of under 300mm and in Brazil where the annual rainfall is nearly 1800mm. Water parameters and salinity varied tremendously in both cases and corals showed little effect.

I've already realised that the STN was your doing....A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. Clearly, the dark side joined you have.

Darth Acro, once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will...

Looking good man. Can you refresh my memory as to what powerheads you are using?
I'm using 2x Ecotech MP10's and 1x Tunze 6095

Over a month since you posted pictures Sahin. You're slacking!:p

Laptop broken...took an FTS a couple days ago but unfortunately can't post up as I can't get off the camera.

Been using my iPad for surfing the net. :mad2:

OK, so I have noticed a slight loss of colours in some corals. :( I dont know if its due to having increase SG to 1.025...I did notice it before the SG change...but yesterday I looked closely at some of the SPS. I then took macro shots with my camera and looking back at the photos on the camera, the previous photos still on the camera show quite better colouration. Have no idea what the deal is.

Going increase feeding and carry out w/c tomorrow.

PO4 is still 0.02ppm and NO3 is around 0.2ppm. I have virtually no algae. My snail population has reduced; the Trochus snails used to regularly breed, but they have stoppped.

The tank glass doesnt even get any film for upto 2 weeks nearly. I think I need more fish.

Any ideas?

Po4 and NO3 readings seem OK in the sense that they are in "balance" (whatever it means), but the fact that you get no film algae on your glass for two weeks may be an indication of a sterile tank. Snail deaths in your tank may support this hypothesis.

Do you get any coralline growth at all? How many fish have you got and how often do you feed them? I think that you subconsciously worry about nutrients for "perfect" coral coloration.

Coralline algae growth is minimal.

I only have 2 fish left; 1 wrasse jumped out and 1 other wrasse I caught and took to fish store. I am going to buy more fish in the coming weeks; going to purchase some anthias and a few wrasse.

Bulent, which foods do you suggest I feed? What do you feed on a daily basis and how much? - I just went through your thread but didnt see any posts in relation to this subject.

Thank you.

Hi Sahin,

I have six fishes in my tank (yellow tang X 1, file fish X 1, Genichantus angle X 3, Royal gramma X 1).

I only use frozen food (mysis, RS mysis, red plankton, krill and cyclopeeze) and seaweed as well as fresh mussels and clams. I feed up to three cubes (or a little more if I use flat packs).

Bummer that the one wrasse jumped.:sad2: What wrasse did you return to the shop and why? And I agree, more pics please when you get the chance.
