600 gallon plywood Down Grade!

Well it's been a while since I posted. I've made a few changes to the tank. I added a LR wall and mounted some of the corals. It looks much better. So far things are going well. The sps took a hit from the transition, and from a couple accidents with the top-off water. They appear to be recovering nicely.

As far as the livestock. I lost my copperband butterfly. Not sure why, just found him dead one day. I had him for 5 years.
I also added a Hawaiian boxfish. A no no in many peoples opinions. It took almost 2 months to get him to eat frozen and flake food. I was putting in pieces of live rock from my refugium everyday so he could forage. Now he ignores the rocks and waits for the food.

I've decided to build a second tank. It will be 48 x 48 x 29 inches. I should be able to squeeze it up my stairs when I move. The glass has been ordered and I will start the build soon. I'm just not sure where to put it.

Here are some updated pics.

Dude your tank is awesome! I cant find the page but what filtration do you run in the back room? A big refuge? A lot of people say you cant have all those fish but your tank proves them wrong great stuff!

Congrats on getting the boxfish! Hope you have good luck with it. They have great personalities but they can be a little hard to get eating.

Thanks. I run a 120 gallon lighted sand bed with macro algae. There's also a 150 gallon tub filled with Live rock that is plumbed in-line.

The tanks looking good, but it's not what the 600 gallon was. That was a special tank. The sps died off alot and their colour isn't as good. Also the growth is minimal. It will take some time to get things back to normal. In the 600 the sps grew so fast I could almost see a change in them daily.

amazing tank man,, does the harlequin touch your coral?

Thanks. The harlequin doesn't touch any of the corals. Even leaves the cleaner shrimp alone. For the most part I think the fish prefer to be fed prepared food rather than forage themselves.

I don't know if you answered this yet or not, but do you run a UV sterilizer?

Yes I am running a 3 tower lifeguard UV sterilizer. I'm not sure how much it helps, but it doesn't seem to hurt. I'm also running ozone through my skimmer which may help control pathogens (hard to say though). It definately improves water clarity and seems to enhance the skimming.

Thanks. He's doing well. He fought off a case of ich, and is now eating just about anything he can catch. Leaves the corals and clams alone aswell.

Yeah, boxfish and cowfish seem to have problems with ich. My cowfish kept getting it on and off for a couple months after we got it. Now though, there are only two things in my tank in its. Moomoo (the cowfish) and food. They seem to get along really well with puffers though.
