I got this little Aatlantic blue about a month ago. He's the size of a quarter and has been holding his own with the other big fish. Since the names Big Blue and Little Blue are taken. I'll call him Little Yellow. LOL

Here are some pics of the new refugium/sump area.

same poly tanks I used. I like them more than the Rubbermaids, but you have to be careful about standing on the rims. :D

Ya I guess technically they're not rubbermaids. A lot lighter to carry than glass too. I'll try not to stand on them too much. LOL

I like them because they don't have those bogus tank adapters. I have spent a lot of time drilling out Rubbermaids and installing real bulkheads. PITA.

Cougarman,

Great work. Nice to see some more photos of your fish.

What more can I say about your Duss ... just beautiful. I will just have to be patient and wait for mine to reach full adult colouration.

How is the Naso tonganus ? I do not see the ugly little guy in any pictures. I picked up Randall's Tang book ... I did not know what the adults look like until I saw him there. Very interesting and rare tang - again only a face that a tang freak would love ;-)

Thanks again,
Bruce

DO you think your 180 with all the sand really helps with nitrates?

That's a good question. I'm not sure whether it actually does help with the nitrates or not. I tested the nitrates yesterday, and they were at 5. I guess I could do a test and shut off the flow to my sandbed, then see if the nitrates start to climb. I'd rather leave things be as my acros have responded to my feeding, and are starting to grow again. I could sell off the sand, but I'll probably keep it for when I move houses and build a bigger tank and system. In the very least, the sandbed adds some diversity and numbers to the systems flora and fauna.

do you have or had the porc with the clams? I had a little valentini that tore up one of my clams.... poor thing

Yes the Porcupine is with the clams. He/she never bothers with them or any of the other livestock. He/she would rather eat the food I put in.

Looking good! Just so I understand, you now have 2 300 gallon display tanks?

Yes, well.... the marineland tank I consider the display. The self built 300 is more of just a holding tank til I move houses and get a new setup. Plus I just wanted to see if I could build one out of Glass.

Cougarman - what type of bulbs are you running? The color in the new tank looks really nice... Great job!

Scott

Sorry man I missed this post. I'm actually running 3 different bulbs. They are all 400w metal halides, but temperatures are different. The leftside is 20000k XM, the middle is 15000K XM and the right side is 10000K XM. I've just ordered 2 more 20000K bulbs. The livestock seems to prefer that temperature over the others.

Thanks Bruce. Good to hear from you. Congrads on getting the dussumieris. Hopefully it wont take too long to reach adulthood.
You have a sharp eye. The juvy tonganus must have dissapeared around the same time as the idol b/c he's not in the tank anymore. Darn it! Well they show up from time to time as unknowns, cheap too, so if I want another it is just a matter of time.

I just noticed the moray. Have you had any problems with him picking off small fish and inverts?

No problems. I've had him almost 6 yrs. Seems too slow and blind to catch anything small, but I'm sure he tries in the dark.
