600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Wayne, it's been said before, but I have to repeat that with the number of delays, setbacks, and you being a good father/friend to others in your life, this build will be epic when you get saltwater and rock in your tank and fill it. Your patience really is inspiring. I wanted to get a 300DD tank for when we moved out of our apartment and into a house, and started accumulating the hulking skimmer and two 100G water storage tanks, only to see things screech to a halt when Northern Jersey house pricing laid waste to my plans, along with the house size no really accomodating a 300G tank plus the fish room I'd like to hide all the support stuff inside of. So now my original plan of upgrading my 90G tank by last year is pretty much on hold until we save up enough $ to enlarge the house, which will be years! Watching you keep trudging through your build helps remind me that I'll get there eventually. LOL.

Alright Wayne.

You have been silent for too long. How are things going? Have you figured out your flow issue?

Give us an update please!

Silence means Wayne has been busy working on the tank!

Thanks tech. My goal is when I have it setup and running is to be a future TOTM candidate. The housing market overall broke alot of peoples heart. But as they say one mans lost is another mans gain. You are lucky not to be a victim in that category. If I was to do this all over again I would have put the tank in the bedroom that is next to the garage and have all of my equipment out there. There are some friends(on and not on the forum) that keep saying when are you going to set the beast up or say you should just sell it and keep what I got. I will just do it my way and when its all said and done, the delays will make the payoff that much better.

Meh. I can wait for what I want. Years is stretching things, but whatever. Now, if our new house only had a garage that I could convert to a fish room... :(

Good luck with the 2 new Idols!

Morish Idol Update

Sorry for the late response but I lost both Idols within a 24 hour period. Both were eating nori, flakes, pellets, reef caviar, and mysis. I guess it wasn't my time for them.

Update!

Update!

Well everything is sorta on pause. I have my son for the summer and he flies back on the 15th. I have my daughter( whom lives in GA) reporting to college on the 12th and I have to help her move to the dorm. So depending on how much is left depends on the build.

Next project is definitely redoing the floor, baseboards, and crown molding. But those are the most important items to be completed before I progress and move the tank and stand.

I was at a reef conference this weekend and met the guy from Reeflo and we were talking about my build and gave me his personal address and he said he was going to give me ideas on the type of pumps I need. I just have to give him the height and the equipment I am using and he will give me the pumps at cost. So I will believe it when I see it.

Thanks for inviting me into your home while I was in flordia. Your 225 looked great. Cant wait to see the 600 up and running.

Calcium Reactor/3 Part Dosing...Decisions Decisions Decisions

Calcium Reactor/3 Part Dosing...Decisions Decisions Decisions

I have been doing some major research the past week and since my build is large I was debating between 3 part dosing and a calcium reactor.

The 3 part is a no brainer with a dosing pump. The calcium reactor is another whole story. I am presently looking at these two models.

Korallin C-3002 Calcium Reactor - AquaCave.com

And this model:

Saltwater Aquariums, Fish Tank Supplies, Aquarium Products and Reef Tank Equipment - GEO CR818 Calcium Reactor

Two questions;

1) Do I set the reactor up before or after the cycle?

and

2) Will I have to add some type of Magnesium media or still dose Magnesium overall?

Wayne even though Im having some issues with my reactor (user error) I would still say go with a reactor. I would also take a look at the one I have...MTC pro cal reactor. grwat build quality and excellent reviews. I still have to add mg abduction usually do it once a week when I do my wc. I will probably get the zeo mg to add the reactor when I run out of the brs mg solution.

Thanks. I will research that system. What was the human error if you don't mind me asking.

I would suggest continuous automated Kalkwasser additions, in as many small doses as possible, from a large/sealed/still reservoir. Supplemented w/ a high quality 3 part

No reactors. Only high quality dosing pumps/chemicals

My human error was my decision to go with an upgrade to a bigger tank :D

I had my co2 and effluent drip rate backwards. my bubbles were too fast and drip was too slow and I was dripping in the return section of my sump. I slowly burned my corals abduction wipe just about all of them out before realizing what was wrong. The dkh of my effluent was 60 when Im told it should be around 15-20.

Thank you for the link. Interesting Product.

Is that your own experience or why do you suggest that route for me?

So you had it backwards. Did you get it fixed or you are not going the same route the second time around?
