I don't mean to steal thread have a question because my tank is close in size to yours. 120Lx36Wx30H 600G as well.
If you look at the pdf attached is my idea for my tank. CL=closed loop and F=my return flow( 4 coming out of the center overflow box). I was going to run either 2 dolphin 2100's or 2-darts. The dolphins only because of electric.I know your going to go with the tunze's but havent seen a layout of how your going to set them up. My only porblem with the tunze is having to pull them out ever 6 months to clean them. Is this how you were going to go? I like the idea of putting racks and having the closed loop blowing up from below to keep that area clean.Tell me what you guys think.

I don't understand the PDF, but I can tell you I have to clean my Tunze's every 90 days or they simply don't produce the flow expected.

sorry melev i don't know another way to draw it. The CL's are where my closed loops are and the F's are the 4 outlets around my center overflow. The 2 CL's are on the right side are the inflow for the Closed loop system. Hope this helps

Is this a center overflow?

There seem to be 6 closed loop holes. Can you explain what they all do?

there is 1 closed loop with 4 openings 2 on each side of the overflow and the 2 inlets on the right side for the closed loop. the tank is a 3 side view (front, back, left side) right side connects to the fish room.

Well, I don't like dual inlets, at least in that configuration. I try to look at worst case senarios, and with that layout, if the bottom bulkhead ever failed or leaked, 2/3's of your tank would be drained.

Very soon I hope...

Very soon I hope...

Will has been out of town the past wk for an Aquatronica conf over in Italy... The last e-mail between us he said he would work with me on trying to get the tank delivered the last wk of Nov (Mon - Wed next wk)... Needless to say I am getting really excited...

As for the stand... I stopped at Walmartââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s and picked up some Kilz Acrylic Latex paint along with some 6mil plastic... I am going to paint the top of the stand with a few layers and then cover the stand with a layer of the plasticââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ A 1/2" piece of pink styrofoam will be placed on top and duck tape will be used to secure it into place and then place another piece of plastic over top of the styrofoamââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

I went to Lowes and picked up some aluminum L pieces and a rivet gun with some rivets so that I can get started on the light rackââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

I also need to finish unpacking the base rock I received from Capt Jer and clean itââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ While I was at Lowes I picked up a lot of long black zip ties that I will use to secure the rock work for a more stable foundationââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

I am still debating on the substrateââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I am still thinking about a faux sand bed on a 1/4" thick HDPE sheet (cutting board)ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I was talking to a CORA member at our local fish club meeting and he said something about using the Great Stuff Foam on the bottom and then placing a faux finish on that to give the bottom more dimensionââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ If I were to use the Great Stuff foam I would place it on a thin piece of acrylic or maybe 1/8ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ HDPE sheet so that if for some reason down the road it can removed if neededââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I really like the faux sand bed for ease of maintenance and looks, but I have heard a lot of talk about coraline taking over :(ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I am even considering using a larger grain of crushed coral so that I have a substrate that will not be affected by the flow from the Tunzesââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

I was going to look at getting a controller while the system was cycling, but I went ahead and picked up a Aquatronica from Will that he will bring with the tankââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I have heard a lot of good things about this controller and I like the fact that it does not use X-10ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

So I still have quite a bit to do, but I have kinda been putting it off until I get the tankââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ Once I have the tank sitting in front of me I will much more willing to get water in it and things should get done alot quickerââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ The two wks off in Dec should help quite a bit as wellââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ I am hoping to have water flowing and most everything setup by Christmas so I can let the system run while cycling as well as get everything dialed in and fine tunedââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

So, how long has the delay been in getting your tank from the date you were first quoted.

I wonder if anyone gets thier tank delivered on the specified due date.

Whens it coming Shawn ?

Been talking to Will via e-mail and I think we agreed on Thur Dec 8th for when he will be delivering the tank... I am calling a moving company locally so that they can meet Will here with the tank to get it to the basement... I am getting (have been) really excited...

From what I have seen Will does good work, but again everyone who has dealt with him has had to wait (longer then the date org given)... He has worked with me on the delay... Over all right now I am happy and would recommend him, just don't be in a hurry :) and if he gives you a date, take it with a grain of salt... I think he just gets in over his head and takes on more order then he can handles, Just my personal opinion...

Shawn, as you know my tank was build by Will. It was only one week late and I did get 10% off for being late, but I wanted that in my contract. As of to your tank I hope you will have it on the 8th, but I quastion that. Good luck.

Because they are noisey, put off way too much heat, and are generally a pain in the you know where.

This is true with most off the shelf chillers, but it is not universal.

I would never argue with a person that tries(and is successful) at setting up their tank without a chiller, but having one there for safety is very comforting.

My wife does not like the AC as much as I do and tends to wait a little longer than I prefer, before she turns it on. On several occasions, I have came home to a house that is 80 degrees. I know if I did not have my chiller, my tank would probably be dark - due to my automatic shutdown of the lights for such an occasion.

Also, what if your AC goes out in the dead of summer and is is a couple of days before you are functional again?

After dropping this kind of $ on a sweet tank like this, I think $600-$1000 for a split system chiller would be money well spent. And probably less than 6% of the budget.

I did mine myself, and all the heat and noise is outside, next to the heatpump for the house. The only way I know the chiller is running is the slight hum and orange light that comes on when it is running.

I prefer the chiller to several fans hanging around my sump, but I am pretty tight for space - so that matters.

I would like to state that I did change the design a little after I had sent Will 1/2 payment (about 1wk later), I went from an ext overflow to int and added the areas on both sides of the overflow to hide the Tunze's... I was expecting this to add some time to the project and that it would push back the finish date but didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think it would take this long... I don't build aquariums so I am not sure what is all involved in the process... After going back over and reading my post(s) I wanted to make sure I that I stated this as I am not trying to say anything bad about Will (AO) but delays happen, I am excited about getting the tank but I am not in a hurry as I want it done right... Will has worked with me on the delay(s) and I know I am not the only customer he has...

Shawn,

You stated on the first page that you already have a Geo Ca and Kalk reactors...are you happy with there performance? I'm looking at the same thing for my 220.
