7 months of growth pics

The first pic is with 3x Reefoptix III DE Pendants with Pheonix 14K bulbs. The other two are with the 2x LM3's with 10K xm SE 250W.

How do you like LM3's compared to the ROIII's? I am currently running 2x250 hqi d/e ROIII's with the Pheonix bulbs and I'm considering going the LM route. Does it provide more spread? Increased intensity? Thanks.

Substrate is fairly new.

I plan on replaceing it every 4 months to keep it clean.

Rocks are sitting on cutting board, all the sand you see is only 30lbs, so its quite easy to replace.

How do you replace the sand every 4 months? isint it hard to remove? what kind of sand is it?

Nice tank

I like your coral aquascaping, very reef like. Not just a bunch of sps. I notice you have 3 easily viewable caps. in your tank: 2 orange and one green, it is interesting the difference of growth of the three, like night and day. What do you atribute the amazing growth of the one on the lower left. Water flow, different light?

Just the fact that the two LM 3's replaced three ROIII's is proof enough to switch over. The spread is much better now, tank has no more shadows. Tank also runs a little cooler now.

It was well worth the upgrade.

I use a syphon hose to suck out the sand. It is then replaced with fresh sand. It is easy to do since there is sand only in the front of the tank.

Sand I use is Caribsea Reefloor special grade.

The green cap grows at an acceptable pace, it will take off once it gets a little bigger.

As for the orange cap on top, I have frag it once a week to keep the growth from taking over my Digi's. So I belive it grows close to the same pace as the other orange cap, but is restricted due to space and fraging.

The big cap is growing at a crazy rate. I attribute this to the huge amount of space it is given. from the front of the cap to the front glass of the tank there is at least 12" of space.

I feel fast growth in my tank is because of the extra space each one is given. Many people make the mistake of cramming many frags together. I feel this may stunt some of the corals growth.

If a coral has space to grow it will use all of its energy toward growth. If the corals are too close together they expend more energy on competing with each other.

I do not have many species of corals, maybe less than 12.
Given the space the corals have they can grow as they would in nature.

Looks great, Sunny!

IIRC, that's an epoxy bottom, right?

Is it just the pic that makes the cap look more orange, or is it your new bulbs?

Cap always looked orange but I think I looks better now because of the increased spread of the LM3's. If anything it looked nicer under a bluer spectrum.
