75 Gallon Pictures & Build Thread

The algae bloom will dissapear on its own after it eats the available phosphates and nitrates from the water.

Capn... may I ask where the phosphates come from in the water if I was using RO/DI... my guess is simply die off from the rocks?

Seems to be coming along nicely. Try testing a sample of your RO/DI water for phosphates just to be sure. Also some plastic can leech out some phosphates.

The RO/DI water tested 0ppm... although some dust particles and things manage to get in the can whenever I use the pump etc... so it always is around 009ppm.

Need some help please. I need an ID. Pics attached. I also took a pic of the hair algae covering the tank now :D

Also on a side note... that big flat rock is a getting a lot of random flow from the powerheads... worked out nice... like a wavemaker almost! But yes... I need an ID on those three coral I found today.

They almost look like shrooms, but i'm not really the guy to ask, just wanted to jump in and keep your thread up there :-)

Thanks :0) I can't tell what they are to be honest. I dont think it looks like aiptasia.... the flat round head part seems to big. I can't find a picture of something close.

I googled brown button polyp and it says that only .35 ounces of its toxin can kill you.... this isn't something I want in the tank if it is that.

Well the zoos forum confirmed it is the paly toxin kind of coral...and dangerous... has me a bit worried because I did a siphon today and some water from the tank may have gotten in my mouth. Have to find an-auto siphon method.... can that stuff be present in the water??? I feel ok.....

As for the tank... cycle is pretty much done and I got my first inhabitants today.... 3 astrea snails... 3 nassarius snails... and a blood fire shrimp for looks.... little guy ate from my hand (glove of course).

Acclimation went well.... I went about 2.2 hours for the shrimp to get salinity spot on and the snails took about 3.

Input appreciated to put worries to rest... dont' want to die from this coral.

actually siphoning gas this way will kill you faster:D

try using a power head and a 1/2 inch piece of garden house--does great for pumping water out of your tank or sump

BTW
I advocate but don't always do it--and have regretted it sometimes but you should wear gloves when doing things inside the display tank and or refugium

Hi Capn'.

I do wear gloves yes. Sorry I should of been more clear... the siphon was for the drip acclimation of the inverts... not pumping water out. Any suggestions... and should I be ok healthwise? I want to get a sundial snail to eat those things.

I'm not a doctor so I can't say but I doubt you ingested that much full stregth toxins----if any.
Like with zoos you have to stress them out really bad plus I would be more worried about direct contact of your skin with them as in picking them up.

just a non medical thought

Will do thanks..... can i take the rock out and boil it in water? if i kill them in the water. wont it release toxin in the tank? what about the snail eating it in the water?

I would not boil the rock---just pluck them off with tweezers

BTW
I have had these in my tanks and never had a problem with them other then them trying to take over. If they start to take over I just pluck them out of the other corals with tweezers

Where do you plcuk them from? From the looks of mine.. they seem to be in the rock a ways... will this cause them to release the toxins into the water? Or should I pluck them outside the tank?

Do you wash off your gloves after them being in the tank? Or do you simply take one glove off, then use a bare hand to take the other off?
