75G reef suggestions

Hey all! I just decided to start a reef after long research and was wanting to know if ya'll could help me out on stocking it:celeb1:

Heres the equipment

75G perfecto aquarium(glass)
Marineland 70G filter
Coralife 65G skimmer
2-250W metal halides(14,000K)
1-Sicce powerhead
2-600GPH powerheads(bought from petco,don't remember brand)

90lbs of live rock
80lbs of live sand


For my stocking list i only have a few fish but want some ideas:wavehand:

1-Yellow tang or regal tang(i'm thinking yellow but i don't know if either are fine)
2-occelaris clownfish

And i do want a mixed reef but i may go mainly LPS with an anemone. I dunno.

Also help with the CUC would be much appreciated:spin3:
 
Skip the Tangs. I had a Yellow tang in my 75 gal mixed reef. He outgrew it in six months. Stick to Jawfish or basslets , maybe a dwarf angel. Always check what the adult size will be. Your corals will grow and you will soon be out of room. A 75 is too small for tangs.
 
I will just skip them. how does the equipment list sound? The only thing im worried about is the 2 MH lights...is it too much?:hmm2:

Also I cant figure the out how to get the skimmer working properly. The cup fills up within 5minutes. I know thats not right. Its a coralife 65G skimmer. Anyone have info on this skimmer? Its really ****ing me off lol
 
id wouldnt get a dwarf angel. i had one in my 75 reef in the beginning. it didnt bother softies, but it picked on my lps. it took 2 hours, and i had to take apart the whole tank apart to get him out. i currently have a small yellow tang in my 75(ill trade him out when he gets to big, and i might be starting a bigger tank soon anyways) and havent had any issues with him. as for the anemone, a bubble tip anenome would probably be your best bet, because they are easier to keep, but they tend to move around alot sometimes, and there is no guarantee that your occelaris clowns will host to it. there is a good chance they will, but no guarantee. i have a mated pair of occelaris clowns that host in my hammer coral which gives essentially the same effect of looking at clowns in an anemone.

For the MH lights you should be careful. If they're right above the tank (less than 6 inches from the water), I wouldn't keep them on for more than 6 hours. But as you go up, you may be able to get away with a longer photoperiod. For the Skimmer, there is an upgrade where you limit the amount of air coming in. The trick is to put it all the way open, and just less air coming into the pump. Making the skimmer more efficient. There is a lot of info, just google it.
 
I have a 75 gal with two 250 20000k metal halides six inches above the water. I just place anything new on the bottom first, then bring them up on the liverock over a few weeks. My motipora and staghorns are six inches below the surface. I have to frag the red and purple monti caps every six months or so as they grow like crazy.
 
I'll post pics tonight of the tank. I also forgot to add that I have a 200W heater as well. Gotta heat the water:spin3:

2-false percula clowns
1-bicolor blenny
3-green chromis
1-flame angel

How does all that sound?

Also the clowns will have some type of anemone. I may change them for maroons and get a BTA. I dunno.

Sounds too little. If you want corals in there, you'll probably want more. 1 of those Chromis will also likely die.
 
My 75. Banggai Cardinalx1, 2 false perculas, scopas tangx1, cucumber, assorted snails and hermits. The scopas actually has some purple and yellow in him so he looks decent. I know people always say no tangs in a 75, but i've had him 5 years and he hasn't grown an inch. He also pretty much stays on one half of the tank. He seems to have plenty of room. If i could get a banggai of the opposite sex i would... tried several times and mine never acted like the other was the opposite sex. I've also tried chromis.. they all ended up jumping out of the tank. I think the clowns didn't like them.
 
IMO, corals could acre less how many fish are in the tank- I ran by biocube 29 fish free for several months and all the corals thrived.

I would skip the chromis, they never seem to last in shoals- once a pair forms they tend to kill off the others. that leaves the clowns, blenny and dwarf angel; the only one I'd be tentative about is the angel, but I dont like risking my corals, if you dont mind the risk though they are a very beautiful group of fish.

you have room for a few more fish; for a 75g peaceful reef, I'd suggest looking into dartfish, gobies, jawfish, basslets/ grammas, wrasses, and similar fish. personally, I'd suggest a pair of zebra barred dartfish, a randall's shrimp goby/ tiger pistol shrimp, and a mcCosker's or carpenter's flasher wrasse to round off the stocklsit

Sounds like a perfect example of what happens to Tangs in a tank too small for them. A Blue Tang I got roughly 2 months ago has doubled in length. I'm sorry to hear your Chromis jumped out. I have had the same problems. I've now put a screen on top to stop it. Took about an hour.

It depends on the corals. I'm running my Biocube 29 with just a single fish now, and it is absolutely covered in Coraline algae. But with SPS, you need some nutrients in the water. LPS should be fine without fish. Softies I'm not sure. I'd think they'd like a dirtier tank.
 
Im not gonna put any corals in for about 6 months. I wanna get the anemone in the tank and settled before I get them because they move lol
