75g sps build thread

Ok I got a new bulk head but got the wrong size so I need to got tomorrow to get the right one. I will have a good update tomorrow, doing some plumbing.

Ok made a little progress so far. I got the right bulkhead so now I can mock up my plumbing and paint the tank. I went to SpectraPure because I was having some issues with mt RO unit. They where extremely helpful A++ customer service, took me in the back to show and explain what was going on with my unit, tested my tap water, tuned up my unit, replaced the broken membrane housing clips. Best of all the owner threw in a free DI cartridge and a free chlorine test for me. I highly recommend SpetraPure RO units, they take care for their customers even though the issues where pretty much my fault. I will post up some pics later once I get some work done and have something to show.

Ok so here is where I am at on the build. Got the parts to plumb the overflow, painted the back of the tank and got my RODI fixed. Here are some pics and some for the finished stand.

Got some more done, a little at a time.
Here is the start of the light rack, my dumb a$$ only got 1 10' length of conduit so I need to go back to HomeDepot. You always need to make 1 more trip seems like.

Dude, am I hung over still or are your pics blurry as all hell? lol

Nice work man, love the bachelor couch in the background, I swear I had the same one, You didnt get it off a lawn up in colorado springs colorado did you? lol

Also, light rack looks good but I can give you a few tips on making it look more finished if you want. Dont take offense man, Im not knockin it, im an electrician so I know what parts and pieces are available but not often stocked at the box stores. For the transition from back of tank vertical to horizontal is there anyway you can borrow a bender(or you can typically go to an electrical supply house near you and theyll likely bend one for you or one of the electricians waiting in line has nothin better to do, most would be happy to help you I bet) from someone to just make that a 90? If not you can get whats called an LL and a LR for the left and right respectively. They are a single 90 fitting that has a gasketed plate that attaches with a couple screws so that you can pull wire thru. You can get them with set screws so that your conduit would terminate directly in it without the need for ugly set screw connectors. http://meproducts.net/products?subcategory=A2J.

That or just use these http://www.garvinindustries.com/Ele...it-Fittings/Compression-Connectors--Insulated instead of the set screw connectors to streamline it a bit. Also, I know you can get simple "easy L's" at the box stores http://www.garvinindustries.com/Ele...uit-Fittings/Pull-Elbows-Set-Screw-EMT-to-EMT.

Any of these would make the fixture a bit more sleek while still alowing easy wire pulls if thats why you used fittings instead of bends. Although im not sure why you would do that...Honestly, the pics are so blurry I cant even tell what you used! lol

LOL that couch was in my garage but we got rid of it yesturday. Yeah pics are blurry, my steady hands at 11pm after sawing the conduit by hand. I will take some better ones. I wanted the rack to be modular so I can take it apart if I ever need to or to add more to it. I am going to get it painted after work today and it will look much better, I really dont mind the industrial look of it. I hope to to the tank transfer on the upcoming 3 day weekend. I will be going a fresh water leak test and final tank cleaning soon also.

Youre not gonna do the switch slowly over time? All at once scares me as it always ends up with algae cycles and nutrient spikes no matter how cured your rock is. My sps hates me when ive done that in the past. Thats why im takin my new tank much slower. Hope it goes well!

Yeah I would much rather let the new tank cycle for a while but since it needs to go in the same spot as the old tank and I am using the sump and equipment from the 40B options are limited. My rock in the 40B is very mature premo LR and the new rock has been cooking in total dark for a month now. I also plan to use all the water from my 40B around 50g and slowly acclimate all the corals. It has been done before and I fully expect to **** my sps royally off and loosing all color that I have been working to get back. But in the end I will have a larger tank and more water volume.

Well kind of at a stand still on the build right now. Everything is pretty much ready and done. I just need the time to take down the old tank and move in the new one. We all know how long that can take I am planning for 2 days.

Update. I got the light rack painted and it turned out pretty nice I think. I glued the rest of the PVC drain in place. Later today once my fiance gets home to help me move the tank I will do a tank leak test.
