Here is a little project I did for a co-worker. He wanted something that would compliment his game room.

This first picture shows what we started with:

It was an alcove in dividing wall. It had no structural purpose to worry about.

This set of pictures is showing the construction part. I used doubled up 2 x 6 with 1/2 plywood sandwiched in between for the cross members and 2 x 4 for the studs. I also put metal corner brackets in to help prevent side movement in case of an earthquake.

This set is showing some of the drywall installation and the filter setup. The filter is fed from a 1" bulkhead in the side of the tank. The pump is an Ehiem i forget what size but it will pump about 750 gph thru the filter and back up to the tank.

Here are a couple of almost finished pictures. The only thing left to do is put the doors on the cabinet and fill it with water.

Unfortunately this person only wants freshwater at this point. He really likes my tank so I think he will be into saltwater soon. i will get some pictures of the tank filled and operating when I get it finished.

I know it seemed such a waste to me also. He said he thought Saltwater was too much work. I think they will change within the year!!

The "seat" was at just the right height!

thats pretty sweet are you going to close off the light area or leave it showing the brim of the tank ?> super nice work!

That part of the tank is finished. it will be just like you see it. If he switches to a reef tank later I might have to change the lighting setup. The bulb in the picture is a 100W flourescent. he is going to change that to 3 x 60W bulbs.
