A Low Country Reef Tank....one more final upgrade

So Steve, your fish room is being built under your garage doors? Are you going to stop using that garage door, or are you planning on trying to roof it off underneath the garage door to be able to continue to use it?

Hey Tony, I made it so I can still use the the garage door. I had to do a little retrofitting off the bracket on the garage door. I'm now trying to decide on what kind of door to use. I want to use an exterior entry door for the insulation but I don't think I'll have enough clearance for the rough opening. If not I'll use a hollow door and cut it down a little.

What do you plan on using the garage door for after the fish room is built? You really can't put anything in their after the room is built that would need the garage door. Wouldn't it make more sense to disable the garage door in the down position, and build your room up to the ceiling of the garage, then that can allow for the door you want to put in?

Kids will still be able go in the garage for bikes and stuff. Also if I was to do that I would have to remove the track system and take down the garage door opener.

Looks great. Sometimes its for the best that you have to do the work yourself.

I look forward to seeing your progress.

Day 2 progress.....

Day 2 progress.....

So I didn't get as much done today as I had hoped. The heat--90 degrees and the humidity 90% really slowed me down!

Hopfeully I will be able to finish this up by next weekend.

Looks like you made some pretty good progress this weekend! That is one seriously pimped out RO unit. I've been kicking around the idea of upgrading my 75gpd brs unit. Let us know how you like it.

Btw it was in the low 80s with low humidity back here in NJ this weekend. I even huddled around a fire pit Friday evening to keep warm while enjoying a few beers. :)

Steve, at any point did you think about having the builder throw in the walls and the door?

I'll love to see the guys face when you tell them its a dedicated "fish room"...

I had asked about it but per town code they arent allowed to build anything permanent in the garage because of flood zones. As it turns out, when the engineers did the final elevation certification they found that the floor to my garage is 1" above the flood zone and they could have actually done the work for me. Its all good because I am really enjoying doing all of this work. My neighbors were popping in over the weekend to see what I was doing and the expressions on their faces basically said it all....they think I am crazy!

When you are done, I bet you hook at least one neighbor into reefing,,,:)

So who said reefers are sane. Continuous work and we love to show it to others and they are the ones who enjoy it with no sweat!! and we would never do it any other way we love to show our achievements!! By the way you know that your neighbors are right and they will love your tank and they will be anxious to see every addition you make. My neighbors across the street love my blue tang that is entertainment to her children to see it go R/L.

Loaded up on supplies Thursday night and made more progress today. Door is in and insulation is almost done. I was able to get the door I wanted, I just had to flip it around so the door opens out instead of in which I think is better any way. I am hoping to wrap this up tomorrow......

Fish room update.....

Fish room update.....

So after Tropical Storm Arthur cleared out of the SC area yesterday I was able to get more work done on the fish room. Walls and ceiling are complete, need to trim the great stuff I used to fill in some gaps and move on to painting. Im pretty confident that I will have water flowing by the end of the month.

OK Steve you now have committed:: Twenty Seven days to go & counting down !!! How big is your water tank.. I have two that look similar .. each is 65g??
