a simple sps tank

Wow! Beautiful!! And your MP40 have no propeller cover!!?? Why? Interesting... maybe to do a wider flow and to avoid sand blows up ??

I'm really glad you like it man, appreciate it big time!!!
Still has a long way though but i hope if everything goes smooth,to be what i have imagined it in the next6-7 months:-(

H-O-L-Y GUAC-A-MOLEY :inlove : you didn't mention the tank looked that good Mike!! The video really puts into perspective just how well you've done with the scape! :-D And what I really love is how good it looks with the two fatties swimming around. Just gorgeous Mike!
:lolspin:
Thank you so much mate for your kind words:beer:
You think higher of it than it really is but thank you anyway bud!!!:love1:
Yeah those two fatties are my weak spot and tbh i've been thinking lately adding one third!
That scape is the only thing i'm happy already in the tank lol
As the corals grow it looks scarier and scarier lol

Thanks bud, really glad you like it!!Appreciate your kind words!

I was too tired all this years taking the covers off every couple of months to clear them from the coraline and the various algeas that would grow on them:uhoh2:
Not only i was spending time that i didn't have but the flow was alternated before and after the cleaning process.
So i thought why not give a shot trying to remove them.I think Don was the one i saw he used them like this first and i took the risk too.
Flow is indeed wider and it is not changing, like it was when i had the covers getting dirtier.

I don't have many snails in the tank.I think there are only three in there now and i never see them on the glass or even near the propellers.
Fish never go close or get injured,so knocking on wood, things until this day are cool...fingers crossed:-)

Here are two weird angled pics i got:uhoh3:
Things look a bit bigger this way lol...please don't make jokes about it:lolspin:

Guys i'm about to use bacto balls from FM,has anyone used them with any results?
My routines have become soooo simple but i always want to try stuff that may or may not help my tank look a bit better...ahhh this never ending hope:hmm6:

i have the brightwell block which is basically the same thing and i had no negative results. i will tell you to rinse the heck up out of the material because your skimmer will go nutts for a day

Thanks for the answer. And I would not try anything...this tank is perfect!! Great aquascaping, great color combination and clean...but I understand you...all us in fact ;)

Love the weird angles!
But now I want a straight on fts, please!
It really is amazing how much growth has haplened.
Why do you think you need the bacto balls?

Thanks for the suggestion buddy,i will surely check it out if they do the same thing:beer:
Still waiting for the bacto balls to arrive:(
So it's a good thing to have an alternative plan.

Thanks man,i appreciate your kind words so much. They give me strenght and motivation...plus you help me keep my hands far away from the tank lol
Still has a long road ahead of it though:(

Your opinion means a lot to me matt mate and you loving the way it looks ,make me feel nice:beer:
I have planned some maintenance for the weekend so i'll try to get a descent fts when i'm finished with it:)

Growth rate is satisfying but it could be a lot faster.I think i know why they hold back though.Originaly i thought it was due to the low temp the tank run this winter, about 73,4 F but i made some tests last week and i was a bit surprised.No3 are at 25 and i can only guess where my po4 are.Have absolutely no idea because i haven't tested them in the last...maybe 15-20 months.
No algea on the rocks etc but that green powder algea on the glass forms every day. I clean the glass daily.
I'm too lazy these last....months and i can't even think of going back to daily dosing....of anything:(
So those bacto balls of FM sounds like a good lazy plan to deal with my no3 and the possible po4 problem.

Still haven't my hands on them though. What are you thoughts?

The tank is looking amazing already Mike and it will look even better with time!!

Thanks my dear rory, appreciate it soooo much:beer:

Mike your tank is looking awesome!! It's really filling in now with all your colorful corals. I've mentioned it before, but your tang and angel in there make it that much better, beautiful fish!

Hey Mike, I have no experience with the bacto balls, they do seem simple to use. I'm curious to watch how you add them to the system and how your tank reacts to them.
Should be interesting.. I'd be interested in where your p is now and where it goes in relation to n once the balls are deployed.

Really sorry for the late reply guys:spin1:

Thanks buddy, you know how much i appreciate your kind words:beer::beer:
Corals are growing really good and achilles too.
''The dude' is no longer with me because he grew really really big and he was braking corals, plus he got really aggressive towards achilles. He never did any damage to him(maybe bitting his upper fin a couple of times) that couldn't be healed fast but for sure it was something i could not watch or tolerate. He got so big that you could hear his grunting even if you were outside the room:fun5:

In the end i never gave bacto balls a chance. Was a bit hard having access to them and i don't want to rely on things i can't get on my hands easy,at any given time.

Well, especially you guys, know how my tank is doing and that two weeks+ ago i added sand back in the tank.
Made some coral relocating to a couple of them since then.
After adding the sand tank looked like this
https://youtu.be/ddurjg7qB20

As i was expecting i would get some kind of sifting in tank's parameters(every time i added sand back in the tank,i witnessed something new and got a new lesson).
Well this time i got an algea bloom.Tank/water is crystal clear in the morning but as the day/sunlight/light hits the tank it looks like this
https://youtu.be/dalnhatWnoM

At first i was a bit worried but as the days went by,i only saw positive reactions from the corals. They grow like crazy and even their colors improved a bit.
I thought of following the necessary routines in order to get rid of it but atm
i'm not sure i want to stop all that growth spurt. Never had so many growth tips on the corals before.Just wanted to share that crazy situation:spin1::spin1:

Have absolutely noooo idea about my parameters(haven't tested due to lack of time) but my kh sure is 5,1-5,5.

Edit.
Hate that i can't post the videos as thumbnails:(

Love it Mike!
Looking sweet!
It’s amazing how much brightness the sand gives to the tank. Looks great.
What are you using to take video?
I assume it’s just the goby raising dust when he sifts.. you sure you have an algae bloom?
I bet it continues to go away on its own..

Not The Dude :sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1:
Surely you'll be getting another big show-off fish?? :)

The tank looks UNREAL Mike :lol2: so good to see it doing so happy and healthy and that sucks about the algae bloom but it should pass soon enough :)

Thanks buddy,so happy you like it,appreciate it more than you know:beer:
You're so right, sand makes it really bright.Especially the first 4-5 months before it gets a bit dirty. But i'm sure this time it will be a bit longer due to the goby stirring it all the time. It's size this time is bigger than the last one.
I just use my camera phone.I tried one slr but couldn't get the hang of it. Too much potential for my poor pic/video skills lol
Unfortunately it's an algea bloom:( That said,it only makes my eyes sad...corals seem to love it:fun5:
Thought of plugging in my UV to control/eliminate it but i really want to see how long it will last and how corals will keep reacting. Hope my curiosity will not be bad for them in the end.
Plus i'm sure you are right and it will subside as days go by.

Sad for me too dom, getting rid of him.Saw the full change on him and it was awesome.Plus he was in the tank for 3+ years.
I really wanted to get a queen but they get pretty big too ,so i gave up on that option.Sometimes i think of adding again 10-12 dispar anthias but schedule these days is tight and i will not be able to keep up with their diet.
I do want to add something but atm i ave no idea what would be cool, wise and right choice.

Sooo happy you like it dom, really means a lot:beer:
Still a long way ahead but if it keeps progressing with that paste i'm happy:spin1:

your tank is 4' long and you have a gorgeous Achilles? How is that possible?
Glad you think ragnar is gorgeous man:beer:
Have a huge crush with this fish:inlove:
It's two years in the tank.I believe i made the odds stronger by having him with only one more fish, huge flow in the tank and lots and lots and loooots of feeding:)
Funny thing is that i got him straight from the lfs's import bag,no quarantine and even followed zero methods of introducing him in the tank.
Pure luck, nothing there to be an example for other reefers or achilles lovers:thumbsup:
Tank is pretty wide too.Almost 90cm,so this might help a bit too
Thanks again man!

Thank you so much Matt buddy:beer:
Things indeed have grown much and I will be very happy if they keep doing their thing:)
Maybe in the next 5-6 months it will look a bit like what I dreamt it to be. Still a long road ahead of it though.
Glad to see you man

Spooky reef, indeed! With the algae bloom, it looks like a foggy London night with jack the ripper around the next corner!!
