Achilles Tang Primer

Saw these videos a few weeks ago and the design of his tanks look amazing. Great use of space making caves and pass-throughs so the tangs have plenty of real estate for swimming. The Achilles in these videos is huge.

QUOTE=eaglesrx;16161905]just love this fish. I always love to see these guys swimming around in people's tanks.

If you haven't seen it already, there's a great video of this reefer's huge cube tank (4' x 4') and a large achilles in it.

It's on reefvideos com. It's video, "Carl's 300g" system. He also kept his achilles in a 150g tank, too. You can see the video of his tank wth the achilles in the video, "Carl's 150g" system.

Enjoy!

Nice to see he upgraded from the 48x30x30 that had both a huge achilles and a sohal in it.

I agree. I'm sure that sohal quickly became a terror with all of those other tangs. This is in addition to the issue that a 4 ft tank is way to small for a fish that reaches 16", needs swimming room, and is one of the most aggressive tangs.

I did love how the achilles always seemed to be in the camera view!

What happened to that site? Great videos especially with the achilles in them. Haven't heard anything from Mr. Morris in awhile

I have a problem with my Achilles, the body
on the fish never stay perfectly black/brown color.
It always has this discolor patches of whiteish area,
but the fish never has any ick (knock on woods).
I had him for 1 month now and even the day I purchase
him he was never dark and he was in a copper system.
Thanks for any inputs.

I got an Achilles today about 3 1/2" that I plan to keep in a 20 gallon QT for 4-8 weeks. After a week of eating I plan to add cupramine at a lower than recommended levels and slowly increase. Should I leave him by itself or is it OK to add another fish like a flame angel? I treat all my fish with cupramine for at least 4 weeks.

Death may visit, jfyi. Read thru this thread as it has allot of information in here.

I agree, I highly doubt a 3.5" Achilles in a 20-gallon tank with copper treatment will live very long. Even if it was eating, but the fact that its not makes the chances of survivial very dismal

I know the rule is ideally 6ft long tank for an achilles long term, but wondered what everyone thinks about an achilles in a 200g, 48" long x 36" deep x 27" tall tank and no other tangs in the tank. The aquascaping would be very open, with two islands right under the reflectors.

Thanks!

What's the flow? Sounds good so far. Open tanks ftw

My achilles is much more active at night, Even with all lights off he swims around very actively. Maybe thats what the blue rings around the eyes are for???
Dunnp but he seems to see just fine in jet black conditions.

Heres of picture of my achilles after 2 weeks of quarantine and was just released into display. No signs of ick yet.

he is small only 4 inches.

He is slowly accepting mysis. But only nips at free floating nori algae.
I have to fatten him up soon.

I have found they will accept particulate noti easier than picking at it at first.
I smash it up and they seem to preffer that. JMO

Ok after the intro. to the DT he has a couple spots of ick. Has anyone ever had an achilles that never had ick?
