I'd like to see a picture of yours?

I can take one but it looks like all the other pics of the other frags that you have seen pic of right now. 'red with some purple just starting to show up'

My lights are just coming on I will see if I can get a shoot of it today.

Honestly Darrell, the frags are really nothing to look at...

Thats sad. I guess it'll be a while before I get to see what one looks like.

Thats why I don't really get the whole chalice fad. You get a tiny frag for crazy amount and they take forever to growout.

My tyree watermelon did not look like much when I got it? But know it is one of the 1st asked about corals in my tank! I just think that it is funny that if one of the "cool chalice guys" that hang out on this forum had it everyone would be like the ewoks worshiping C3PO!!lol

Who are the "cool chalice guys"? As far I can tell, were pretty much all a bunch of fish dorks.

I have the Tropicorium Acid Trip, Ktar's Melting Pot, Tropicorium Flame Thrower and the Original Flame Thrower

My Trop Acid Trip was $400, but the frag is a square 1 1/4" on a side. Huge compared to others. Red with a couple purple streaks starting. My Ktar melting pot frag was about the size of a booger when I got it a couple weeks ago, and it has grown a bit. I basically bought these chalices to have something desireable to bargain with for other new ones at a later date, in addition to wanting to see the colonies grow out and hopefully develop their coloration.

Aww...that's sweet but I'm pretty sure it just means I need to have my head examined and my credit cards destroyed. :D

I took a pic. But like all the pic that I take they always come out like ---. It looks way brighter in my tank than the pic. Time will tell But like I said before I saw the mother colony with my own eyes, and it is just as mind blowing in person as there pic is.

This is under only Phoenix 250W 14K. No cropping/photo editing. Its just like I said it looks like. Its in the center of the pic.

there is a lot of truth regarding the size of the frag.

Mine was huge, over a square inch, which in terms of other high end chalices, its enormous. Its not at all uncommon to see the 3/8-1/2" for $250. You can find those ALL day long. So for what its worth, its actually one of the less expensive collector chalices, you just have to buy more of it.

To answer the question of "is there only one piece" thats colored up? no, they had 2 or 3 more that were getting the crazy colors in, and they cut them to sell. They just left the one in tact to show the naysayers that come in.

Its no different than any other crazy expensive corals, they are all big money. I'm not sure why this comes as a surprise to anyone.

jpa0741 - trop gone in a couple years? they have been there for over 20 years, so thats highly unlikely.

I have to say, overall, they take great care of repeat customers. I live only a few minutes away, so I'm in there quit a bit, and they always are generous when it comes to frag sizes. Thats the best part, i don't think ive ever gotten a 1/2" frag from them, they are almost always 1" or larger.

I've done two orders with Trop. My first one was their grape watermelon, and the frag was actually a round mini colony 1.5" in diameter with about 12 eyes for $125. And they threw in a freebie acan frag as well! So yes, they are very generous regarding frag size, as Junior says.

Yah if the frag is coming is over 1 inch like Juniors then $400 is reasonable. But the site says, price is for 1 eye. Which typically means you'll be getting a piece about 1/2 inch. At $400 for one inch, I'd split it like Ian did.

FYI. I was not the one who said they would be gone in a couple years. I was the one saying how long Dick has been doing this and how well known he is in this hobby.
