Team RC
here's a short video of some of my acropora polyps swaying I the flow. Ignore the 2 gorgonia :)

hope you enjoy

Very neat video. Your PE makes my acros look like a bald man in a hippie comune. I think I need more flow. Thanks for sharing.

looks like there is not a lot of flow. I always contend with how much is too much...flow that is.
good color and PE!!!

wow!
very nice!!
I'm envious of your beautiful corals.
it looks like you are using a wave maker. can you tell us what kind?
Also, is the video taken with actinics only? or blue leds... looks like t5, to me..
thanks!

haha - :lol2: actually that one hists too close to home :worried:

Nice video you have some very nice pieces in your tank.
thank you very much

good color and PE!!!

thanks - flow in the tank is from the return that splits and goes through 2 flow accelerators, a Tunze Nano Wavebox and a modded MJ power head

Very nice....
thank you

yes the Tunze Nano Wavebox, the first coral is on the far side of the tank and pretty much only gets the motion fomr the Tunze 4' away

video is with LEDs a 2/1 mix of Royal Blues to Cool whites but the whites were in a dim down mode so more blue then normal
the camera had the white ballance set in the sandbed, its not true as the blues look purple but it's close

sorry, another question..
what is the very first coral you shoot in the video- its quite amazing.
thanks - I got it from a local reeefer; he called it a "strawberry tabling acro", I don't know where he picked it up from so I can't offer much more then that. I will add that a lot of people think it's a ORA Red Planet

Could you fill me in on your bulb selections? Im running a T5/LED mix as well but I feel like my dawn/dusk is simply not bringing out the colors you seem to be getting

the T5's (that are not on at the time of the video) are: 12k white, white actinic, fiji purple and another 12k white.

I have the royal blues on for about 17 hours a day starting dim and working there way up then dimming off again. I'm partially convinced that the excess light at this spectrum eventually acts on the corals zooxanthellae to produce or reflect colors that fluoresce. I may be completely off base and just happen to have healthy corals that do well in the light spectrums I hit them with.

Thanks

you certainly are getting nice colours.
I've never used leds on a tank of my own, I'm an old believer in mh and fluo.
why the mix of led and fluorescent?
still debating whether to go led on my next set up....

great vid! Your tank is looking really good!
thanks - (knocks on wood) so far so good

Awesome video! I'm digging the music too, who is that?
it's a random jazz selection you tube offered called "Cool Flow". the original recording had my wife cleaning the dogs in the background. I thought this may be a bit better

I still think MH's are better for SPS overall. This build I was torn between MH's with VHO actinic like I had on my 300g build but was space constrained and concerned about heat so decided to try T5's. The colors were good but I missed the shimmer effect so added some Royal Blue LED's. I like them so much I added more, but this time a mix of RB & CW's. I still run 4 T5's for the high noon and full spectrum. I was running them 8 hour then cut them back to 6 then 4 hours but corals in the center (under the T5s) started to brown so I starting to extend the light period again. The corals shown are primarily under LED's

What are you dosing??
not much, but I do feed heavy and have both a Ca reactor and Kalc reactor. Kalc by itself does not meet my demand but I found that the corals and tank just do better with some kalc dosing. About once a month I add some Kent products (strontium, coralvite etc) I don't know that they do a lot as I use way less then recommended but with my dose routine on an annual basis the products aren't that expensive. I know skimming strips some trace products and I try to stay up on water changes (about 15-20% a month in 5 gallon increments) but figure adding back some trace products won't hurt.

thanks everyone for watching and the great comments

i just watched the video again and was struck by the absolute clarity of your water. there is basically not even one speck of anything floating in the water between your lens and the coral.
what mechanical filtration do you use?
i didn't see too many fish, do you feed very much
are you running a bare bottom system?
thanks

wow great video and beautiful coral

Psteeleb. How did your coral long polyps.

thanks - hard to say for sure but for some corals they are actually shorter then they use to be. I think good random flow and feeding help the PE

thanks, currently I don't have any mechanical filtration. I like running filter socks but I don't like cleaning them.

the tank bottom has a very shallow sand bed of about 1/2 to 1"

I do feed a lot for the gorgonia. Basically every day the tank gets phyto, pellets, cyclopeze, mysis and reefpearls
