Acros make me smile again

Hey thanks man! I've seen your pics, so coming from you that's a big compliment! :D

A couple newer pieces:

Thanks! I've diving into the deep end now, with that skinny version of an abro :o If I can keep that color, I can keep anything

Closeups of my new favorites...

Possibly elegans:

Prostrata, but the coralites are huge?

And my OT, all time favorite!

Looking good! Keep with it, the reward of success far outweighs any slight failure along the way.

Do you think phosphates could have caused the browning and poor growth you saw earlier? I'd imagine it's a pain to keep phosphates in check with all the feeding; but it looks like you've found a balance with the new tank.

Thanks. Prior to vodka dosing, yeah, browning was common, since I have too many fish :o And I just don't try to keep those types of acros that require ULNS. Most tricolors, for example.

Some corals still don't do well though. Of course the abro has lost its pink tips

And my red planet REFUSES to send out a single branch...

Do you have the red planet in a high or low flow? Seems the people that just have crazy growth have them in a medium flow. I think this has to do with how Ora raises their frags; sense many corals of theirs do just fine in "average" lighting and flow. Sometimes you just need to be a bit meaner to them ;)

Mine is in very high flow, and very bright light (directly under the bulb), so you may have a point...

Thanks Alicia! :D

It looks like it's got that going on with the light coloration (lots of light), and huge base from all the flow. You can try to get a new one and try mounting it on a plug so it will branch before it encrusts. Most acros will branch before they grow away from the light/down. I know this looks ugly but over time the plug just become part of the base. HTH

Interesting idea! But since I already have another red table acro in the tank, I doubt I'll get any more frags of this one...

SD, your acros make me smile too.
That nice blue coral that you think is a "prostrata with huge coralites" look like Hoek to me.

Thanks! You know, I thought the same thing when I looked at the picture, but I've owned hoeks, and they didn't look like this coral, at least not in person. Honestly, it looked like a mille/prostrata for the longest time.

I totally agree, the coralites in the pic completely remind me of those cupped shaped ones on a hoek. But this coral at least lives :D
