AI Hydra Settings Thread

Also this is this Acropora. Not sure if its getting the greens from low-light (might need to bump the intensity up, just finished acclimation a few days ago). But it sure is getting damn pretty!!!

I have 2 x 52 hd over a 4w x 3h x 2d tank. I am using the following api file settings which I downloaded from one of the threads:

dca8fbfb02d4327a0f95eb1f05358d4c.jpg

My tank is quite deep being 3'. I keep a mix of sps and lps.

Does anybody know if max around 100% for rb and lb is sufficient or do I need to elevate all level intensities slightly to accommodate depth tank?

I would try to rent a PAR meter from your lfs but my initial thoughts are regardless of how much you crank the 52hd's you are going to need more lights on a tank that size if you plan on keeping branching sps. I would personally have atleast 4 and likely would end up with 6. But for now a rough starting point to aim for is about 500-600 par at 12" BWL to account for the depth of your tank. Hopefully cranking the lights up high enough to reach these PAR reading will give you some use able PAR levels at the bottom of the tank. Hope this helps, happy Reefing!

OH my I'd say keep those greens and screw giving it more light lol. The tank looks to be doing fantastic!!! It's amazing how much better I like these lights since hitting upon these settings. Everything in my tank also looks as happy as could be!

Does anyone know of a way to move your whole photoperiod two hours? I'm using the SPS+ program that we have been sharing around here. I would like it to end at 10 instead of 8.

Hydra 26 in JBJ 30

Hydra 26 in JBJ 30

Hi guys I have my new hydra 26 placed about 10-12" above my jbj 30 tank with the glass lids on

I have mostly softs (hammers, open brain, anemone bta, flowerpot, Xenia, torch). Wondering how much light I should be setting them at

The tank is roughly 24x24x18" (height)

Hammers, brain, torch are currently on bottom and flowerpot and nems on top

I've recently noticed my brain and maybe a pink hammer bleaching a bit but I'm not sure this is loght releates since this is my current power setting

10 hrs, 2-3 hr ramp up. 4-5 hr peak

UV 20%
V 27
RY 69
B 57
G 25
DR 11
CW 12%

Thanks in advance!

Literally have to move every single point, its a pain. AI should really add this feature, seems too simple to add not to be done...

If anything I would say your pushing too little light and that is causing the fading. I run a hydra 52HD & a Prime HD over a 30x12x18 29 gallon tank and run my lights with roughly the following values:

UV 90%
V 90%
RY 90%
B 90%
G 25%
R 25%
CW 25%

My hammer coral shown below is sitting 6" down directly under a 52HD getting blasted with well over 300 PAR. My other euphyllia (the octospawns and torch) are still directly under the light but on the bottom (about 14-15" BWL) in about 200 PAR. That is my rationale behind saying too little light is probably your issue. Euphyllia IME love LOTS of light and moderate flow with bursts of high flow. Hope this helps!

Also I am upgrading to a similar sized setup (SCA 50 gallon) in a few weeks (Tank actually just got delivered Friday!!!!!) and I will be running two Prime HD's and the Hydra 52HD over that tank at the same settings I listed in my last post.

Ok thanks I'll try to bump it up a bit each week and see what happens

Do you guys know the benefit of the UV light is on the hydras? Should those be high or low? My LFS told me to just use blues and whites depending on what looks best. That's all they need to grow

I personally would say that is bad advice.... AI did not include just blue and white diodes they included red, green, violet & uv also. Each of these spectrum peaks have a role to play in photosynthesis. Some less then others but all important none the less. In photosynthetic cnidarians UV diodes role is to trick the coral into believing it is in shallow (uv) penetrated waters. This then causes the corals to pigment thier skin for protection and helps reefers produce the intense colors you often see. I run my uv and v channels around 90% for reference. For more information on spectrum I suggest reading the ecotech & world wide corals study I posted a few pages back. As for your tank if you want to experiment with a more intense lighting schedule I suggest you try the SPS AB+ 12"AWL profile I posted a few pages back also. I devised this program based on that study (if the manufacturer is running their lights like this it's probably wise for us to also IMO). If you do try it be sure to acclimate at 50% for 2-3 months since you are coming from such a weak schedule. My results have been fantastic since making this program and a couple of us on here are running it to great success. Here are some awesome top down pics I took yesterday. Happy Reefing!!!

This thread is massive! My head hurts :headwallblue:

Trying to figure out settings for the hydra 52hd. I have found many posts but hard to find any follow up posts discussing if their settings worked. Currently I am messing with 1 light over some sofites. Light is 10" off the water and tank is 28" deep. In the past I had some Chinese blue/white light that grew the softies very well. Working on converting over my lights to all hydra 52s. I will need 3 for the 300g and 2 for the 120g.

Where should I start? I did my own then found a aip file and testing it out right now.

Also, can the incorrect settings potentially increase algae growth?

See the above post and read the posts in the most recent 10-15 pages. I have posted settings and gave links to my API file. In the past few months there has been a group of us running a modified Radion schedule called SPS AB+ to great effect. Please see my previous posts for more details. Also are you planning on growing SPS at all? If so 2-3 Hydra 52HD's is woefully inadequate for anything but softies and maybe LPS on tanks of that size. I run a 52HD and a Prime HD on a standard 29 gallon tank for reference.

Yes I have a 60x27x27 190g tank and have 6 hydra 52 over it with 4 T5 lit for 4hrs of the 12hrs the leds run. Great coverage and you can run lower % on lights to conserve your lights.

Awesome video you really do have some spectacular colonies. It is refreshing to such a mature system!

Thanks man! I think the hd 52s maybe better than my regular 52s as I see they have all major colors at the same count on the hds and makes it easy to copy the radion AB+ light settings. Some of my sps I have had for 4 yrs and it's nice to know I can keep them alive for the most part lol.

I will for sure go back 15 pages and read up.

I read something about the radion schedule. See if I can read up on that as well.

I have not made up my mind if I want to do sps yet. I thought about setting up a 30g tank for coral experiment. The fact that you have that much light does indicate I would need more lights.
