The next swap is the first Saturday in May at Aquacade. I'm not sure when the next one will be at Down Under. If I had to guess, I'd probably say June. Also, Salty Waters in Durham and Reefkeepers in Clayton have expressed interest in hosting a swap some time in the near future.

Matt, you should check out the RASOC they have meetings once a month in Charlotte and have swaps at every meeting. www.rasoc.org.

Wait till I get to Charlotte next month and you can ride with me to any of the swaps in Raleigh. Ill definately be still going to a lot of them.

I think The Aquarium Center in Kernersville has swaps occasionally also. I met the owner at the RAS workshop and he seemed like a great guy. You may want to check witht hem to see when there next one might be.

Hi Folks, sorry for the delay. I was out of town for a few days.

I have access to about 800lbs lbs of what used to be live rock. The 500G tank was setup up for a coral however after several failed attempts they decided to turn it into a Cichlid tank.

Although the rock is not "live" it could be easily fermented / seeded in a saltwater vat with a couple of pieces of live rock. After a couple of weeks of heavy circulation this rock would be good to go. The formation of the rock looks to be Fiji style.

I figure the rock could sell "as is" for anywhere between $1 to $2 per pound or cheaper.

If anyone is interested just shoot me a PM.

Hey Ryan, I finished the light rack. I created a pulley system and will hopefully post some pics tonight. How does your schedule look this week to do some acrylic work :) ?

Just wanted to provide an update on the Rock.

I picked up the rock today and have Good and Bad news :)

The rock is actually nicer than I expected and it is far from base rock as I originally expected. Basically this rock is equivalent to Tonga/Fiji select.

I also have over 200 lbs of medium to coarse sand available. I will be selling this for $0.50/lb or less depending upon the quantity desired.

The bad news is the price of the rock will range anywhere from $1 - $4 per pound based on the quality and pieces desired.

If anyone is interested shoot me a PM.

I will setting the rock up in a 200-300 gallon rubbermaid or similar within the next day or two with re-circulating pumps.

Thanks,
Ron

i just got it in my tank ill try to get some pics tomorrow if i can borrow my brothers camera cuz mine sucks and you cant really make anything out

Electrobes, I am sorry for the delay in pics. I literally set up a 120 Gallon holding system tonight. Picked up, plumbed, etc. I actually asked my wife for the camera when Kiki was over but the batteries were dead and needed a charge. When I get home from work tomorrow I will post some pics. Promise :)

Thanks,
Ron

Electrobes, early morning for me....here are some morning pics for ya. Again, I am selling this rock for $2-$4/lb and $0.50/lb for the sand. Thanks. Ron

Where'd you get that vat??? Me likey

BTW The Sweet Pets in Greenville, NC is having a frag swap on May 17th just FYI.

Thanks Ron for posting the pics. That rock does look good, I was SO hoping it was going to be completely dead rock ;) You're definitely not going to have a problem selling this stuff!

BTW that is a neat vat where did you find that???

The Aquarium Center of Kernersville let me borrow the vat. Jay, the owner, is a super nice guy and probably one of the most knowledgable reefers I have come across. I have "picked" Jay's brains numerous times on my own display setup. I called him yesterday and asked if he had anything I could borrow to process the rock and this is what he had waiting for me. It is 8 Feet Long, 28 inches wide, and about 15 inches deep.

I believe the Aquarium center is also setting their live rock in the store in a similar fashion and tank.

I'd love to know where he got it. I want to set up an outdoor lagoon/ mangrove type setup and that would work great.

nauticac4, I can ask him where he purchased it and get back with you. Btw...How do you like your Octopus 200? I ordered the new model from ReefSpecialty which will be running on my 120G Frag System (WIP).

Well I stopped by and picked up some rock today! :eek1: WOW it was excellent!!! I was surprised at what I got for the price. Only thing is I wish the wife had given me a bigger budget to by more :) the sand is also a great deal too. IF you need base rock, don't pass this up.

Thanks Ron
