Well I stopped by and picked up some rock today! :eek1: WOW it was excellent!!! I was surprised at what I got for the price. Only thing is I wish the wife had given me a bigger budget to by more :) the sand is also a great deal too. IF you need base rock, don't pass this up.

Thanks Ron

Pleasure Jim! Hope it works out for you :)

ron did you check your PMs? I send you one yesterday I think.

I might be able to drive up there over the weekend and bring some WO40 with me and check out the rock.
how much rock do you still have left?
are you getting a cycle in that holding tank?

Sorry Ryan...I will shoot you a PM.

I have around 300lbs or so of rock left and a boat load of sand.

As far as cycling...the rock will probably take several weeks before it begins seeding/curing. Folks sometimes like to refer to this as base rock. Although this rock is not encrusted with Coralline Algae, sponges, etc as of yet it is probably some of the nicest I have run across from a pure weight, crevices, and overall appearance. Most of the pieces remaining range from 8" to 12" with a few larger ones throughout.

"apex003" came from Durham tonight and purchased around 60lbs. If you want an unbiased opinion I would recommend a quick PM to him for his feedback.

Ron,
Thanks so much for having us out to your place tonight. It was great to meet you and your family. Your display is beautiful... Looking forward to some trades in the future. ;)

All,
If you're looking for some top notch rock, this is really REALLY nice stuff. Definitely the nicest looking rock I've seen. Can't wait to get it going in the new system. The sand is really good stuff, as well. It will need some time to get seeded (as Ron said), but this is the kind of stuff that's $8+/lb normally. I was amazed how big the rocks were compared to the weight because it's so porous. Plus, Ron's a top notch guy...

I dropped all the sand and Rock in my 20l QT tank and man it is a tight fit! All My Bristle worms went nuts!!!!! I arranged them with my current coralline encrusted rocks around them so i can speed up the process. I will take a pic today if the water is cleared up. that way I can post before and after pics. Since it will be 4-6 months before i set up my 120g i think I have plenty of time to get this rock doing well. I cant wait to put this rock in my tank. Again thanks a lot Ron, This stuff is great.

Also thanks everyone for the welcome's :D

joe

I have about 200lbs of Rock still available. Please shoot me a PM if interested. Thanks

how long are you going to have that tub set up for?

any chance I could buy rock from you and not pick it up right away? my display is almost ready, but I'm already cooking some base rock (marco rock) in FW to purge it of whatever nastyness. I'm not cooking it in SW since it will come out of the water to be foamed+epoxyd in a few weeks.

btw I got the WO40 but haven't had time to give it a shot yet. I'll keep you updated!

Nice Pic Ryan...I see you been working out :)

I am going to have tub setup until all the rock sells. If needed I would certainly entertain the idea of pre selling and keeping the rock in the tub while cycling for approximetly 2 months. Shoot me a PM and perhaps we could arrange something. This is truly a great deal for someone. I know LFS sells rock in the neighborhood of $6-$8 per pound and it does come close to the quality.

Sean,

I think, Wilmington is a lot like Fayetteville in that we don't have a lot of people into saltwater and even less that know about this site. I have been trying to get the word out in Fayetteville, particularly through a new LFS. We now have Graham's Reef and hopefully he can stay in business for a long time because he really is trying hard to advance our hobby. Do you have any decent LFSs in your area?

rpeeples. So far the Octo 200 is great I get a good cup of thick skimate about every 3-4 days. I did a couple of the mods plus some of my own.
1. Mesh mod
2. Bored out the elbow
3. Dual venturis

there are some okay DIY's in the equipment forum.
