Alternative to Spa Flex?

Hi Guys,

So I spent today hunting around at various spa / pool and plumbing places locally to find spa-flex and unfortunately I couldn't find any.

I want to use something flexible to run between my display tank and sump. I did manage however to find a supplier for one of the plumbing places I tried - http://www.esdan.com.au/?pg=products&catid=1

These guys are local to me, but i'm not sure which type of hose (if any) would be good to use. Can anyone suggest which one to go for out of thier product range?

They have some PVC based hoses, but I just don't know what I should be looking for apart from PVC based and not clear (to stop the sunlight getting into the hose and causing algae).

Thanks guys. That link is direct to their hoses page.

Cheers

Not sure where you're located... but both Home Depot and Lowes in my area carry 1" 1.25" and 1.5" flex spa sold by the foot.

I use 1.25" flex hose...the kind you have on your shop vac...super flexible, much more flexible that actual flex pvc, and cheaper too...stays quiet, and you can make any configuration you want

this is what I went with...

theyre both the same size hose, picture is an optical illusion lol

The flexible non-PVC hose is ok for the drain, but I wouldn't trust it for the return flow. It's not designed to have pressure long term. Also, the ribs add a significant amount of resistance. Spa flex is designed to be under pressure and has a smooth interior surface.

Spa-flex is a brand name - ask for flexible PVC. I'd be surprised if there wasn't something roughly equivalent.

Barbed fittings won't work with flex PVC. As I recall, they recommend a thicker cement it and no primer on the flex PVC (still use it on the ridgid side).
