and THIS is why I use the Vortech foam pad covers.....

"feed ur reef...feed it!"
came home today to find one of my BTAs "hangin' out" at the MP10....
FWIW, my nems never move around my tank as they have been very happy with their spots.....
well....thank goodness I never chose to get comfortable with the notion that all is well with my nems housing choices..LOL

this was at 5:49pm CST when I noticed it in the foam cover face first:

and this was shortly after I gently removed it from the foam cover with no visible damage to speak of:

10mins later I placed it in a hole on my rock work which it stuck too immediately:

and 45mins later it seems to be recovering nicely :D

crisis averted......

Thanks for reminding me. I just set my tank back up after a move and need to find that cover.

That is scary! I don't have covers on my MP60's. Snails crawl in all the time and always stress about small fish.

Does it slow things down at all? How often do you have to clean it?

When the covers are clean the slow down in flow is minimal but you must keep it fairly clean to maintain the flow otherwise it will affect the flow for certain.
I try to clean them once every 10-14 days...it's well worth the effort when you see how effective they are... ;)

I change my every two days. I agree that the foam covers should be mandatory.

I bought 8 extra ones. So I have ten total to swap out.

+1. I have five and swap them out every few days on my MP40s. I always have one soaking in a vinegar solution while the other two are drying.

I must confess that I do not use the foam sleeve on my MP40. Since a Mag is the sole nem in my tank, and shows every sign of settling into his spot for the long term, I'm not planning to use it. Is a risk though.

I have always had my MP's covered, heard too many stories of a BTA that never moved, then one day slimmed his way to a powerhead...
I also find that the covers have minimal flow effects on MP's.

This is one that NEVER moved for the 6 months I had him, then one day....:)

Foam cover didn't work very good for my H mag.I am trying figure out how to keep it in place when the anemone crawls over it.

Tell it to stop walking. Why has it not found a spot to stay put yet?

Are the PH too close to it?

This thread made me giggle. I just took my foam covers off of my bta tank the other day. My thinking was; they should not move, they have not moved in several months. I think I will go ahead and put them back on. HeHe! Thanks for the gentle reminder cet98 and bugs!

Yeah... with a PH please make sure you all have a foam cover.

I mean at least in a overflow box there are other options for water flow. In a PH, the tentacles get sucked in and cut to shreds.

It stayed in the same spot for nearly 8 months,I think it has out grown the rock, because the foot had started reaching down the edge.I may start up the 240 again.

I will never run a power head in a anemone tank
look into penductors /eductors and run them off your returns
no power to use / never have to worry

thanks for the info cet98...if you wouldn't mind could you post pics of your tank, i could barely make it out in the first pic but looks amazing

Just order these for my mp 40's. Even with my tank being 30 inches deep these covers are gold! Using only one till my aqua cave order comes in which will be 6 more then both will be covered. Vortech made them for a reason.

Yes very true they did... Welcome to the forums. That is a kinda old post but I am glad you got some very useful information out of it.
