Anemone Dominated Breeding Grounds.... The Journey Has Begun

Hopefully the next spawn will be much more eventful barring a much larger clutch. It will also be much easier to handle the fry transfer once I get them spawning on a piece of tile rather then the rock work and going fishing.

Lights are out now, hopefully she is able to get some of them out of the tank and into the fry tank without my assistance, as long as they hatch tonight like they should.

Update:

Nothing to report except stubborn eggs didn't hatch out last night either, today should be the day. Around 25 eggs are left from this clutch but by the size of her belly the next clutch should be quite a bit better. Hopefully I can convince them to lay the next clutch on a tile so I don't have to stress over removing the fry and can just let them hatch out into the fry tank instead.

Update:

Not sure if something is wrong with the first spawn or if the eggs are just hard and unwilling to hatch but there is still around 25 eggs and they have not hatched as of last night. If they do not hatch tonight I will be removing them from the rocks for the next spawn (which will hopefully be in a few days)

Update:

Apparently the fry hatched during the light cycle at around 7pm on the 15th and became one with the tank, either that or the male ate the rest of the eggs that were left.

Waiting on the female to lay another clutch, her anemone moved (away from the BTA it kept touching) so I am hopping that does not disrupt her cycle. As soon as spawn two has taken place I will update it here.

keep updating. though others aren't posting and replying I'm sure there's some that views your progress, me included. keep at it. :)

I know it is fairly uneventful until I actually get a successful batch of fry raised passed meta but I figure I will keep posting updates for those who view the thread. Most likely my next update will be when I get a new batch of eggs. The female is very swollen but her anemone has moved, I just hope that doesn't disrupt her egg laying or that she doesn't lay the eggs behind the rock where I can't view them :)

Update:

So they have now laid their second clutch. I have moved the tank temps up to 82 to promote faster development of the eggs and hopefully get a more consistent hatch night. This clutch is much larger from what my wife has told me, but I won't get to truely see it until I get home tonight. She did send me a cellphone picture of it but it is not a very good picture, anyways here it is. I promise to post much better pictures in the next few days.
(adding new pictures she took with the camera, Ill still take more in the next few days).

So here we go again.

Niiice! Looks like she placed them closer together as well.

Yep looks like it only took her two goes to figure out how to do the wiggle, lol. Shes also increased clutch size dramatically. Spawn one was 85 eggs or so, this one is 340 eggs. I am happy with it. Now to wait it out and get some fry.

Update:

1 DPS

Figured I would upload pictures from last night before lights out. I had a chance to take some decent shots including one of the Darwin looking like an Orca eating little eggs.

First two pictures who the pair well, the female however is an onyx who just lost her connecting black since associating. I don't currently plan on pulling them from the tank where she would get her black back, but she should still pass on the onyx trait to the offspring.

And a picture of the snowflake looking on from about 7 inches away, not tending but not being contested either.

All pictures taken with flash while one light was still on.

Update

5 DPS

Looks like the eyes are just starting to change colors, expecting hatch Tommorow or Tuesday night, at least I hope. I don't want to be chasing the spawn waiting for it every night for 3 days like I did last time just to miss it during the day. Decreased the mysis (actually just stopped feeding it) and fed almost only Formula II prior to this spawn, hopefully that gives me eggs that the fry can break free of easier.

One thing that confused me, so the eggs were layed on 20NOV2012, does that make the night of the 20th the 1st night, and therefore the night of today the 6th night? or does the first day count as 0 while Making today 5 DPS?

Found a picture of the female from when I first added the Magnifica, it shows just how black she used to be and how much an anemone can take that color right out of the clowns.

Thank you, It will be a lot better once I actually get some fry in the fry tank, and even better yet once they make it through Meta.

Cool, after a few batches you can tell when they're going to hatch. I never kept track of dates as I had no interest in raising them, but after awhile I was never wrong about the night they'd hatch.
