I just bought a a 3 inch specimen and I am fascinated by the adult male coloration. Just wondering if anyone on this forum has any adult specimens that they could share pics of?

hobogato has a nice size one, not fully adult but close.

hope he doesnt mind me posting a pic.

Wow!!! That is nice. hobogato should be proud to have you show off that beauty. Was it raised from a juvenile?

Any others out there?

I'll post a pic of mine soon. These guys have more personality compared to your average fish. I mean they seem to tame down faster than the "average" fish and they seem more curious than the "average" fish. I'm not sure if this makes sense unless you have had one, but this is what I have read and experienced a bit so far.

i think that this fish in anything less than a 10 ft and 500g tank is not cool... just my opinion as they easily get over 1.5 ft

They can get even bigger then that.. Will make most big tanks look like nano's. Beautiful fish though!

how big is it now fade 32? I have one that has grown from 1" to exactly 10" in 8 months. My wife bought it for me. My coral beauty chased it everywhere when I first got him. The CB was bigger then. Grows ungodly fast. I can't wait till it gets HUGE. Ton of personality, although very territorial.

Mine is around 9-10 I didnt feed that good for a few years do to the fact of trats but I got them under control now so it is back to good feeding.

Mine is peaceful as can be I have a smaller one that I have had for over a year he was about 2 when I got him and the big one didnt even care.

If you have the room the school very cool to watch. Here is a bad pic of my smaller one.

One fish that is best left in the ocean, due to it's tremendous size.

agreed... not a single person who posted has a tank large enough to support a full grown one. :( But I am guilty of owning one as well, I just hope we are all lucky enough to find good new homes for them when needed. It's a shame this fish is so common in the hobby.

I've got one in my tank, he was given to me as a gift (I knew how big they get, and told her it was too big for my tank, but she allready bought it) It was about 3 inches when I got him, now is about 6-7 inches from nose to tail. He is VERY territorial. He's just get's very pushy around feeding time, and it ****es me off. He hates my male bluejaw trigger who is about the same size. Thankfully i'm getting rid of him this week, I just can't stand his pushy attitude anymore.

i think the only reason he has that pushy attitude is because he is only in a 135G tank, ifs thats what its in by looking at your profile. if he was in a 600 he would be much happier and not be so pushy

exactly... and I'd like to add that nobody here has posted a pic of a fully grown vlamingii. Although juvis are quite readily available I think there are several reasons you only see adult vlamingii in large public aquariums.

Adult vlamingii lose their colorful juvenile coloration and become a much more uniform grey.

Wow. Now I feel like crap! I new they got up to a foot or so. Most sites recommend 180+ tank so I thought it was a good choice. I figured it may reach 8-12 inches in my tank, but I guess I didn't do enough research.

Well, I do my best to keep it healthy and when it comes time I'll either get a bigger tank or try to find it a new home! I really meant well. It seamed like a perfect choice of fish at the time!

Gary in my opinion they are more beautiful as adults, with the electric blue spots all over they look great, mine is getting bigger and bigger every day, but with him being only 3" and a 265 on the way with a 600G tank after that so im ready for quite a while
