any orange acropora? Sps

The pic I posted was after about 3 months of being in the tank, and it is still holding it's color almost 6 months later....but just like any other SPS tank, all my acros have there days where they look insane and there are days when I am just banging my head against the tank trying to figure out what is up....I have a few other similar types of sunset mille's that I bought that didn't hold there color and changed completely. I think these type of mille's are just a hard acro to to make happy and color up, but when they do they look amazing but when there not happy they just look brown. The forest fire is the same way...not many people can get both the green and the orange out of the forest fire but when they do it's an aromatic favorite, but those who cant get it to color up hate it...the thing that is different about my BA mille is the polyps dont hide the crazy orange base.

I saw that when you posted it on the other site...............how about a pic from the front of your tank. I'd like to see how it looks since that's how most
people view corals.

Don't chop that up............let it grow.

Your right about the top downs....most people dont understand how much top downs make the coral more vibrant.... it still looks as nice from the front view, but top downs are so nice....that's why all the vendor pic's of coral are top downs....I never planed on cutting it till it grew out and proved to hold color, every one on the other site just kind of jumped the gun and hyped the heck out of it...I dont buy my coral to cut up and sell, I buy them to keep and watch grow.....I will frag this soon to back up cause it is truly one of a kind....I have another sunset morf that is starting to look even more impressive every day...I will post it soon once it fully colors up....I will get that side view tonight for you.:fish1:

Yes the BA does stand for bad azz..... I am the one who named it, but I never gave any frags to a single person yet, so I dont think they can be the same coral. Go ahead and Google BA mille and you can figure it all out for yourself...here is a top down of it, under t5's.

That is amazing, but to think you are the only one in the world with this coral is rediculous.

Did you dive and collect it yourself? Did you find it in a remote reef where no one else have ever collected? Probably not.

Chances are there are more than one frag of this out there.

Of course, as I have long said, color is the last thing that should be used in determining a coral. We all have seen how much color in corals can shift just by placement in a tank, changes in bulbs, changes in water quality, etc...

A coral may be baby blue in my tank, and purple in the next guys and brown in the next guys.

I agree with most of what you said. It even looks like it is maricultured.....

But some corals are extremely rare with only one source in the hobby or very few.

also

yes...blue...and maybe light blue if someone is starving it...and yes brown if you have not enough light or too much NO3 and PO4 but I bet it will never turn red....or orange for that matter.

Of course there are tons of orange acropora Millepora in existence; heck there were at least 10 at the LFS the day this one was purchased..The thing that stood out about Reffer's is that it was noticeably brighter by a quite a bit, and it displayed smaller polyps that let the base shine through better; something it continues to do to this day.

That would be like saying every Acropora plana or every Acropora suharsonoi is the same because there are 1000's out there in the ocean, when in reality some can be drop dead stunners in multiple systems and thrive long term, while others of the same exact species can be, and will forever be, drab, fickle and unsustainable.

That is a really impressive coral. I also would like to see a shot from the front of the tank as well as a full tank shot.

I got one from him too. Gonzoscoralfrags.com give him a call, not listed in his site.

I like talking or seeing new corals just as much as the next guy but when threads turn into shilling a vendor it gets ridiculous. This thread is very quickly taking that form.

Enough of the hype already............it's just a milli.........they grow fast & others will show up.

Anybody else have any orange acros?

i posted my orange acro on the first page , has greened up a bit but still has some orange in it . most of the color loss was from a heater controller malfunction that kicked my tank to 98 degrees luckily it was one of the few to survive.

there was a lot more orange back when lights used to be 6500 instead of 20k. back then everyone wanted the pink that the blue light turn orange into.

Just to make things clear JBlaze....I never stated I was the only one with this acro, the BA Mille was the title to the show off thread I originally posted it in and it then got dubed as Reefe831's BA Mille...I am sure there are more out there...this one just got a ton of hype that I didn't intend to do...I haven't even fraged it yet cause I want to make sure it is going to hold it's color...anyways sorry to get off topic guys...here is the front view...it's not as crazy as a top[ down would be, but you can still see how strong the color is.

Just frag a sunset to an dead acro skeleton, I will have a Superman done this way in a year or so. Orange and Yellow are difficult colors to get, especially if you have bluer lighting. Personally I'd rather have a setosa, they are hard to beat IMO.

I actually tried this years ago:fun4:.

I used a large milli that rt'nd on me.

Unfortunately it did not work. I ended up with a sunset clump. it was pretty funny actually. It did not just encrust over the milli like i wanted it to. Not even close really.

Lol, that is is funny.........I've thought of this also but never tried it. I was thinking of using a staghorn skeleton with an encrusting monti. I think the trick is to turn the skeleton upside down & then put the encrusting coral at the lower tip so it grows up the skeleton towards the light.

I tried it with zoas on acro skeletons as well. They grew long and masked the shape of the coral.
