Anyone do a DIY aptsisia zapper?

I've got a few that are in the way back of my double D tank. Can't get to them with aptaisia x without getting my nipples wet (or my mustache).

I've used Peppermints in several tanks with success, but my flame hawk made short work of the last batch. Figured a long handled zapper might be a good solution. Mojano Wands are $100+ so a DIY solution might be better.

Anyone?

I tried the electrocution method a few years ago;not the laser which is what I think the majahno wand employs, though. I used a bell button as a switch , and AC adapter( can't remember the amps) and two wires running through a long piece of rigid airline tubing. Just put the protruding prongs of stripped wire over the beasties and pressed the button. You could see the water sizzle some and the anemones shriveled up . I was pleased thinking they were dead, but they came back. Maybe I needed more juice but couldn't get a clear recommendation on that so I gave up with it.

Mark, I would try to get an actual syringe from where you work and figure out some type of tube to go the length. Fill it with REAL lemon juice(straight from a lemon) and nail it! As you know Mark, lemon juice is not something I would highly recommend. IME, I have used it in very small amounts and directly in an Aiptasia. HTH.

You can make your own, I believe it is a power supply with a stainless probe on one side, graphite on the other. The process is called electrolysis, water gets broken into hydrogen and oxygen when electricity passes through it - now this is where I'm fuzzy - in salt water I believe it also breaks down the salt water into chloride which somehow becomes chlorine. Either way it does kill the little buggers.

I prefer the aptasia gel, if you can't reach use a zapper.

With that said if you don't feel like building one you can borrow mine. Less effort :)

Alternatively I will trade my 120 for your 200, that way you can reach in the future and not have this hassle. Even trade.

Does that device actually claim to cause electrolysis? Or is the goal here just to shock or burn the little buggers?

What's wrong with wet nipples anyways?

Dave from vivd aquariums has tried using lazers to kill aptaisia. What ever works you should try to tell the guy at abc 2 to get on his DT and kill the infestation he has in there.

I saw a podcast where Mike Paletta swears by this method and demo'd it in his tank.

OK. Looks like I've forgotten all the sensitive rules about posting links on this forum. I hope someday I'll be forgiven.

In the meantime, you can search for "An Easy DIY Aptasia Burner" and find the results at the top.
