Anyone else hate the new RC?

I had a buyer lined up for my chiller over the weekend. RC deleted all traces of him durring the switch. So annoying. The site seems sluggish and less user friendly now. I'm not a fan.

Seems to me whenever there's a big change in any type of software/database, things tend to be a big sluggish for a while because things are still be tinkered with.

I believe RC staff announced in stickies in all forums that anything posted over the weekend would be lost.

Bummer about the buyer, but if they're serious I'm sure they'll check the thread again, as I know I would.

I like the upgrades, especially now that you are able to quick read posts without going into them. Good Job RC

+1 I like being able to read them as well.

I thought it might be switching over to phpBB, but I guess just updating to the newer version of vBulletin is much easier for everyone.

This is the version of vbulletin that my server runs, and I found the old version here archaic and took a bit of getting used to in relation to what I was used to, kind of a retro, thing as it were. Ultimately, this version is more funtional, and after a while, it will become second nature. The sluggishness is anoying, true, but you have to understand that RC has a huge backend (database) and heavy traffic, and I am certain it is still being tweaked. The old version was sluggish also. Give it some time.

I love it, the new vbulletin brought in a ton of new features and it's been running great compared to the old software.

It will be nice once the aquariums are added back under the footer, but that should be be a matter of editting the postbit so I imagine they can add it back pretty soon.

I don't like the way it looks, its too generic. Was there something wrong with the other one? If not can we go back to it?

IMO phpBB is not as functional as vbulletin. It is lighter perhaps, yes... but it just isn't as functional.

Yes, it was a 10 year old piece of software that did not handle this size of board very well at all anymore. Imagine still running your PC on Windows 3.1 or 95 still. The advantages of the new platform far outweigh the "comforts" of what everyone used to know.

No, I don't hate it. I (as well as most of us) have been waiting for this upgrade for many years now, and it's great that the staff were able to get it done. It's our hope that we will be able to enjoy our time on RC far more with the newer software.

Like anything, we have to get used to the new spots to click and do things. Just like when I will install Windows 7 next month - I'll be upset for a few days because nothing will be where I'm used it it being, but I'm hoping my PC will run far better. (Lately, it seems like it wants to die... I'm hoping it will hold out long enough for the upgrade.)

Anyone "Subscribe to a thread" yet? When you do, it shows how many you are currently subscribed to. I had no idea 4304 threads were tagged by me.

My complaint is the post don't change colors anymore after visiting them. Have to examine the little folder to the left now and remember what they all mean. I know, they change in type size. But not enough for my old eyes.

See, these two features are worth things being on a different side. :)

1. The search feature works now. *squee*

2. We have multiple member PM's now. Sweet!

3. Also, before when i clicked on a smiley it automatically went to the bottom of the post, so i would always have to move the smiley to where i intended it to be. Now I just click on the area i want to put a smiley and Wammo...it's there.

4. The forum is screaming fast now, as opposed to slooow as it was previous tot he upgrade.

5. I don't have to "go looking" for my PM's or my profile or my buddy list people...all that is all on one page now, mucho user friendly.

I'm finding more features, when i find them i'll post them here.
Thanks, take care.

I like the mouse-over preview feature for posts but where is the photo gallery?

You should have something called an "Album" on your left hand side of your control panel You can upload pics to that now. It's really nice because it automatically resizes the pictures for you and it automatically generates the IMG tags too.

:oops, this is currently only available to Premium Members: Sorry!

See my steaks searing on my Egg over the summer :D

I have windows 7 (64 bit) running no classic start menu, (GRRRRRR) and the task bar takes a little tweaking to get it closer to what I like. It is "in your face" a bit more than vista. And yeah you got to hunt around a bit for some things. But if your pc is dying, windows 7 ain't gunna help with that......get the pc running right before you upgrade it.:wavehand:

i dislike that you can't edit the title of a post...it used to be if you made a mistake in the title you would see it right after posting and could just go back and fix it....now once a post is made, the title is locked in forever
