The thing is, that when everything is "right" you can sit back and relax and just enjoy it. I view any problem as temporary. I use them to learn lessons and ensure I dont take shortcuts again. For me, I have been keeping reef tanks for almost 7 years, but am reletively new to sps. I have about 10 (ranging from 4.5" colonies - 2" frags) types and have been doing well with them. There is very little work put in from me to keep these. All I dose is brs alk / calc additives as needed, add 2g rodi every 2 days, and amino acids and proteins every 2 day.
As for the non reef safe fish...heck after keeping a sps tank, think about how easy a FOWLR tank would be...I would say clear a spot at home and setup a second tank so you can enjoy both if possible
