Anyone from the Phoenix area going to MACNA?

I wonder what the winners of the MACNA passes from last years CFM are up to? I remember one was Roy and another was Allyn, was there anyone else?

Thanks everyone for all the info. Very much appreciated. I just purchased my airline ticket via Frontier Airlines and will be arriving Thursday evening. I have a 7:30pm flight back on Sunday. Had to get a room at the Grand Hyatt which is a block away, but at the same price. Would love to try and meet up with everyone from Phoenix that's attending. Maybe we can create a spreadsheet with everyone's cell number, name and RC name for those attending.

Evolved thanks for all the detailed responses, but I was wondering if temperature is a factor when checking your bag underneath the plane.

there's more variability this way IMO/IME. Personally, I take a 1G rubbermaid water jug, and all my purchases go in that. Then said water jug goes into a checked bag. Don't even bother to mention the corals to the airline. TSA does not have anything against this, but certain airline personal don't always know the rules and may take exception.

I've never found it to be. Assuming you have them in something insulated, it's no different than how all corals are shipped all over the world via air cargo. Or to your door from any online vendor.

maybe keep some ice pack handy. The sports ones that activates when needed. they do not get super cold, but I'm sure it can maintain a stable temp for the short flight.

I would think on a plane, the risk in the cargo area is it getting too cold when at altitude. LIke Hunter said though, if it is in a styrofoam container it should be fine, maybe break up some styrofoam or get some styrofoam peanuts for more insulation and stability between cups/bags.

The cargo hold...is the same atmosphere and temperature as in the passenger cabin...no worries...

ok all i remember is those old horror stories of people putting their pets down there and them not making it through the trip due to temps.

If they are climate controlled like the cabin now then no worries.

Find a cooler that fits airline carry on regulations and just be ready to show them you awesome new corals ;) have fun out there for everyone who can't make it!

evolved, thanks for the tip for buying tickets for next year's convention. I know plenty of my local reefers are going. I'll ask if I can give someone the cash to buy me a discounted ticket:cool:

Haven't checked yet, was wondering if there is a Shuttle from the airport to the convention center, or would it be best to rent a car?

cab is about $60 one way. your better off taking the shuttle if your not getting a rental car. shuttle is $19 one way

At the airpot and ready to board. Thanks for those from Phoenix who have sent their cell numbers, I will contact you when in Denver.

I spoke with Shane at SW Aquaculture and we are going to try and set a meet up at one of the local bars/restaurants. Just PM me if you don't already have my cell.

For any of you cigar smokers, I brought some extra cigars if you want to have a smoke and cocktail one night.

They also just launched their own pump called the WAV. Slightly larger than an MP 40 that uses 1link system.
