Anyone tried the Coralvue Reeflux 10k bulbs?

A SE bulb and a DE bulb with the same Kelvin rating from the same manufacturer can be completely different animals. I checked Sanjay's site for CCT info on the Reeflux bulbs but it doesn't look like he has tested the DE bulbs yet. But just to give an example, a SE 250w XM 10k on an Icecap electronic ballast yields a CCT of 11543 and appears crisp white. While a DE 250w XM 10k on the same ballast only yields a CCT of 7541 and apears very yellow.

Well, I just spent a lot of time reading about 80% of this humongous thread.
It looks like this bulb is really nice.
Overall, I like bluish bulbs like the hamilton 14k, so my question is how does this bulb compare to the 10k reeflux with color? And as for PAR how do they compare? IÃ"šÃ‚´m using Icecap ballasts 250w.
Thanks
Marco
PS. Pretty good thread though!

I just started running the 10K and 12K on my magnetic ballast and there is no yellow in it at all. It is crisp white. I really like the Reeflux bulbs, I think I may switch over permanently.

Marco - I'm using the 250W DE 10k reeflux driven on an IC. It looks great! Less blue than the Phoenix, but not yellow! Personally, I think the overall color of the tank reminds me of diving on reefs....a much more "realistic" color.

I would think if you want the blue of Hamiltons go with the 12K the 10s look more white to me

My only worry regarding the Reeflux 12k's are that there is no data out there regarding these bulbs.
Are they less intense than the Reeflux 10k's? And if so, how much less intense?

We have numbers to compare the ham14k's, reeflux10k's, but nothing for the reeflux12k's.....

Not only that, but my last experience with Coralvue bulbs left a bad taste in my mouth. What do we know of the quality of these new bulbs, or longevity for that matter?

I have the 12k on a 400w Electronic and a HQI Ballast. It is surprisingly bright on the Electronic Ballast with more blue than the HQI. I had to move some corals out of the HQI area because it was really working them. But some of the coral liked the hot spot though :) The 250w on the HQI is pretty bright too. Overall, the look of the tank and the response from the corals has been good. I like the Reflux 12K and will add it to XM and Iridius to my 6 month bulb rotation :).

The same thing happened to me, I bought 2 10k bulbs about 2 years ago along with the hype of these new bulbs, first month corals were soing great, later, many corals died or bleached.
I would be cautious about trying them on my tank again.

I was able to switch out the DE 1Ok's for DE 12K's. The DE 10K's were burning pretty yellow on an aqua medic m80 ballast. The 12K's have burned in a crips bright white. They look like they burn brighter than the Phoenix 14K's I ran before. Looks a bit more natural than the Pheonix bulbs. If you are looking for something a bit more blue run them on electronic ballasts.

Has anyone else compared the spectral plots between the first generation CV 10k bulb and the Reeflux 10k bulb?

Notice that the peaks are VERY similar?

Tang man - I'm not sure what your trying to point out but here's a couple of observations:

PPFD - 86 vs. 66.........That's 25% more!
CCT - 15963 vs. 7097.....That's crisp white vs. urine yellow :)

The overall color difference is probably the result of 45% more of the 450nm peak.

Been burning for 3 months on my IC......Love the bulb!

Very interesting observation tang man. It looks like they took their current bulb and made some major improvements to get the spikes higher and also raise the PPFD and CCT. Notice that spike at around 452 nm... It practically doubled.

250 IC's as well...Crisp white...but brings out the blues (XM's much less so). But.....CCT of 15953......?!?!?!? Doesn't look that blue to me.

Does anyone have pics of the DE 250 10K and 12K on an M80 ballast? I'm looking for something in between the AB 10K and the Phoenix 14K but with high PAR.

:D
