anyone tried to using Jebo WP40?

Here is some interesting info about power consumption of the WP40. Using a Kill-A-Watt meter in W1 mode running at 19.5V, the pump consumes around 13W. In ELSE mode running at 15V, the meter fluctuates between 4 and 19 watts randomly. This further confirms the randomness of the ELSE mode in which the pump ramps up and down.

This pump is basically a tunze with a tunze controller built in, for $80. Value is off the charts.

The 24v PWM module doesn't work either. It takes the 24+ 24- wire from the jebao controller just fine and powers the module, but neither the Pot nor the Apex will spin the pump. It just doesn't move.

Unless floyd shares a link to the exact PWM module he is using that somehow uses 0-10v or the correct PWM frequency, this wont work.

I'm probably done spending money trying to get this to work. If someone with a scope and a better understanding wants to take a shot at these, please do.

I would also say the pump is rather efficient in power consumption.

How do you have it wired? You need to go in between the pump and the controller with the PWM. You also need to leave the VA wire hooked up to the controller.

VA still hooked up.

24+ 24- to + and - on the module, which powers it up. + and - on the other end connected to the pump + and -(blue). Pot is wired how it came. Nothing.

All I can say is use a volt meter to see if the PWM is working. Other than that I have no idea and I cant find the module that I have on ebay anymore.
 
So I am far from competent when it comes to adding these boards and such... but in theory (yes I've read the whole thread) you could hook one of those AD110-A10 dimmers up inline between the pump and the controller. And then potentially hook your (Apex/Reef Angel/other controller with PWM control) to the place where the wiring diagram shows 0-10v control or 100k POT? And then your controller would be making the wave motion/control mode?

Yes, that is correct I have one hooked up now and use the POT to adjust the intensity of the pump. I used to have the PWM module hooked up to an apex jr to dimm some DIY led's. So it should work with an apex.

I said I wouldn't spend more money, but I'm more confident with this since it lists 0-10v. They are currently selling them on ebay too (can't link it, but search the model number). Thanks Floyd.
 
I've got good news for those wanting to control the voltage without having to buy a new power supply.

I had one of these lying around and figure I would try to see if they worked. Disregard the cat fur. :)

The dimmer connectors fit with the pump controller and the original power supply. I was able to ramp them from off to what I would assume would be 24v.

You can buy one of them for about $5 off ebay from a US shipper. From China, they are about $3-4. I'm not going to post a link because I don't want this thread to get closed, but just do a search for '12v 5a dimmer' and you should find a similar one.

Thanks Skinnysloth! Do you think you can PM me the link to the one you bought? I am looking on ebay and I cant find that dimmer. All the ones I see say 12-24v in the back not 5-24v like yours.

12-24v is actually better to use, as it wont turn the pump off. 12v-24v is the exact range the pump uses. Great find! Nice and cheap.

I would recommend the universal power supply if you ever want to hook up a battery backup (for the extra tips), otherwise this is perfect.
 
My PWM module frequency was 25khz. It probably needs a different freq to work for anyone else who wants to try finding out. I bought the 0-10v module that Floyd has to try next with my Apex.

Some dimmers that I found on Amazon use PWM to dim or reduce voltage! That's just perfect. My only concern is the DC output of these dimmers. None of them indicates maximum output to be 24V. That means the pump cannot be driven to max speed. On the other hand the dimmer can reduce to 0 volt so it means the controller will receive no power. Is that a good thing to reduce voltage so low it shuts down the controller instead of the pump?
