anyone tried to using Jebo WP40?

I wanted to respond to comments on my idea to use the battery backup instead of light sensor to trigger a night mode. First, thanks for comments! The sensor supplied did not allow me to point it at the light source since I don't want to put the controller on my aquarium (it's on the cabinet ledge which is very convenient). The suggested light sensor with longer leads may allow that and that could be an option.

But the idea that using the backup battery is extra work is not true. This is 30 sec of programming the WP40 outlet in my Apex controller to turn off/on at desired times. It's simple and I get full control of when night mode is started/stop. I'll try this as soon as the Tunze safety connector shows up and reply. If that gives me some unexpected issue, I'll go back to light sensor and try that.

The problem I see with your solution is the life expectancy of your battery. If you use a Li-ion battery that should be fine, but acid lead batteries were not designed for repeated discharge cycles. In a period of months you will need to replace the battery

any tips on opening the power supply without destroying it?

I removed the little rubber feet from the bottom. Mine had 2 screws. Remove these and it should open up. Mine had small hinge thingies, super technical term, on the end with out the screws. Hope that helps

WP40 installed and running off my Reef Angel controller.

What a pump, this thing is awesome, and so easy to hook up to my RA.

I immediately turned off both my MP10 and MP40 and still have plenty of flow.I will definitely pick up a second or a WP25 in order to run anti-sync mode.

Enjoy it. What wave pattern are you running from the RA?
I have mine hooked up to my RA to and I'm using cosmith71's Else mode.
I'm going to put a 25 in there with my 40 and try running them in anti-sync.

Did the older WP40 not have a light sensor? Mine I'm not sure if it came with one. I don't see anything obvious. Control unit looks like it has an area for like a little 2 pin connector to go in. Or are those 2 little holes and little plastic bar house the light sensor inside? (Largely unlit unfinished basement, wondering if it's running in night mode all the time in my cycling tank. Seems strong, but not as strong as many of the videos I've seen of it in a 125 for waves. )

All the WP units came with light sensors.
It is an extremely small photo cell the plugs into to small holes on the left side of the control unit. Chances are that you accidentally thru it out.

It was in the bag with the controller.

I found it, wow I'm surprised that would stay in on it's own. Doesn't appear to matter which way it goes. But being as I have a dark basement. I probably shouldn't add it if I don't care about night mode? (Lights not even on tank yet as it's cycling.)

Put it aside you probably don't need it or the one that comes with it may not work that well in a dark bassement.

Sad story here. I've been following this thread for a long time. Finally pulled the plug on a WP 40 for my 125 long last Saturday. Arrives today with a doa power supply. Got 120 ac coming out the power cord and zero dc coming out the power supply. Heard a ittle "pop" when I plugged it in :(

Guess I'll be giving fs. Call on Monday.

Why can't you email them? It is probably the easiest and quickest way to contact them.

I know,

I have three but none have the right connector (HP and Lenovo too big). I work in IT as system integration architect. The desktop group has a lot of those laying around. I'll get one and fix the connector tomorrow.

Thanks

And you can buy a new variable output power supply on Amazon for about $10-$15 and have it in a couple of days. Why bother dealing with FS at all? It's hardly worth the effort IMHO.

Has anyone done maintenance to their pumps or just simply a check on the propeller magnets and see how they are doing?

Thanks Ron,

Got one from Amazon. And Eric already replied to my post on the FS site. Shipping a new PS.

I had to pull one of mine out the other day to clean the coraline off and the impeller and magnet looked fine, still completly smooth.

weird how the coraline in my tank takes over the pumps but doesn't wanna grow much on the rocks or glass though. lol

I have to take mine out of the tank every other week and give it a good cleaning to keep performance up. But I think it depends on how/with what you feed your tank. It collects larger particles in the intake section of the pump. Adds up in time and slows the pump. While cleaning I inspect everything and it's holding up well.
