Anyone using LEDs over a fuge?

All I've ever needed was one of those spiral 39w fluorescent bulbs in a cheapo $6 Home Depot clip on reflector. I'm working with tight quarters this go round. Thinking a short LED strip would fit nicely and maintain longevity/low energy consumption.

Anyone using LEDs over their regugium?
Recommendations for cheap fixtures (I.e. Off the shelf at HD or Lowes), vs aquarium specific models? (Stunners, panoramics, reefbrights etc)

Any pitfalls? Too much juice? Not enough? Growing nuisance algae instead of intended macro?

Looking for real world experiences, not theoretical here.

Thanks guys!

I've used old evil par38 bulbs in the past and I currently use an old diy fixture that I picked up. I'm not wild about the diy fixture, but I was really happy with the growth that I got from the par38s and I'm planning to go back to them.

You can probably pick up a used set for a pretty reasonable price.

You mean just one of the spotlight type screw in bulbs?

We are talking white spectrum correct?

yeah, the ones that screw into a standard socket. I use the ones that are 3 blues and two whites, because that's what I have. Macros seem to grow very well under them.

I'm using a Kessil 350w over mine Yeah I know it's a very expensive light for that But I cant seem to sell it soooooo
