aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

Thanks Reeftivo,
I cannot say Im in love with the cup neck sliced sideways. Gives you alot less room in the cup for nog.
Maybe it does help the foam get out quicker, but at what cost??? Your adjustments have to be made geared toward the lower end of the neck. This I would think leaves the taller part of the neck useless.
I do like the little soda bottle shaped outlets on the bubble plate. I seen it working in action at Reef a Palooza.
So your saying it's more efficient then the Bubble King 160 mini?
Anyone have anymore vids of this thing working?

Thanks!

the neck being sliced sideways gives you more room for nog. In a normal cup, there'd be plastic where the void is. The thing limiting nog is the diameter of the cup.

I agree the cup should be bigger but the Aqua maxx smokes my bubble King mini 160. the bubble King was truly a piece of art though. the guy I sold it to is liking it even though it skims wet.

edit: forgot to mention the BK was on a larger system similarly stocked.

Whats the ID of the neck on this skimmer? I am seeing alot of sludge going deep into the body of the skimmer itself. Maybe a more narrow body and or neck may have suited this pump better? What are your guys thoughts on this?

I don't have any sludge in the neck of my co-1

Medred,
Thanks for the feedback. Just curious, as a few of the pics I saw on this thread where showing organic build up on the sides of the upper body. Maybe this guy was running very dry skimmate. How wide is the ID of the neck?

Thanks

5" I believe. I think the skimmer's ability to skim punches well above its weight. The only issues I have are the cup being hard to clean and the silencer can fill with water if the water level rises (like turning off the return or if the silencer is touching a filter sock).

Thats a good size neck for sure! I have a Bubble Magus NAC6 on my 65 and it runs idle alot! I want a spare back up skimmer. Thinking of down sizing and keeping this one for a spare... Heck , the nac6 a only has a ID neck diameter of 3.25"!!!! And its too big in my opinion for my 65 gallon tank.

My total water volume including sump is about 60 gallons. I feed sparingly and have a pretty light bioload. This skimmer works like no other skimmer I've owned to date.

The CO-1 rocks my 65g. I clean out a good half cup of black skimmate every week.

Neck on the co1 is 3.5

Sorry, meant to say 100 not 120. People are running these on larger systems but I not sure they aren't leaving junk behind with that small of a neck.

reeftivo,
So it's rated up to a 175 gallon tank? I think I would get better production with a smaller neck. I already have a 3.25 and it runs idle alot! I do however carbon dose, so my water is pretty darn clean. I was thinking the Reef Octopus 110 Would be better suited for my 65 gallon set up.
This is what I see happens: Too large a neck lets the skimmate build up low in the neck quicker, greatly reducing the skimmers efficiency. It does not allow the skimmate to rise quick enough and get out of the neck.
Just my 2 cents. I like the idea of a 9 watt pump too! :)
