aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

Glad many of you are loving the CO1.

Mines still going as strong as the day I got it wet the first time.

Had major back surgery sept 6th and still have until dec 7th before I can return to work.
Since being laid up its been difficult to keep up with tank maintenance and thank god for the CO1 holding things together. I'm more mobile now but there was a good month+ there when I couldn't even get to the sump and asking the wife to help was out of the question.

I had a buddy pull off my plugged cup drain so I could run the skim into a 2 liter bottle until I became more mobile. Filled that sucker up!

Still have some down time but it's so nice to know that I can count on this skimmer to do its job w/o worry.

As many of you may know, I've owned and still own quite a few skimmers but this one is the best I've ever used. The volume of the collection cup could be bigger but for my small system it's fine and for those that have larger systems the cup drain to bottle or skim locker makes this a winner, winner, winner.

Happy reefing everyone and happy Halloween

Tivo

Seemed to be the same skimmer with different name.

I have dialed in the skimmer now with just slight wet skimmate, love it. I clean the cup every 5 days.

I wouldn't trust it, besides based on what I've read in this thread Aquamaxx's customer service is stellar... that's enough reason for me to wait until MD has it in stock again.

And get well soon reeftivo!

Same skimmer
Aquamaxx is JNS rebranded with only a minor tweak on the impeller and volute.

Good skimmer!!

But as pREEFERED Mentioned, big Als may not be as responsive as if you purchased through MD. Who knows though? Just leave it at its current setting and let it do its thing.

And $80.....the jns one at bigals is $400....kinda stinkas cuz they are identical but bigals only price match if the are identical, identical. If that makes sense.

It is the exact same skimmer.. Aquamaxx doesn't make the skimmer JNS does... Pretty much everything Aquamaxx sells is from JNS..

yeah you are right, thanks for attaching the link... my tank is still cycling so I can do without the skimmer for some time, but if my cycle ends soon and I get impatient... at least now I know where i can buy one

have you purchased anything from big als?

I'm shopping around for a new skimmer. Anyone see a problem with running this skimmer at 6-7" water level? TIA

so I'm looking at the ConeS CO-1 on MD, and it says that footprint is 6.3"x8.7"... but as I look at the pictures it looks like the legs make a perfect square around the sicce pump...

for those of you who have the skimmer, is the additional 2.4" taking into account the cylinder drain pipe? is 6.3"x8.7" the actual footprint? is the actual footprint 6.3"x6.3"? if not, can someone please give me the actual footprint?

I'm trying to determine if I have a large enough space in my sump for the CO-1... even perhaps the CO-2...

If you have the CO-2 please feel free to respond as well, thanks in advance!

From the bottom of the sump (where the base of the skimmer sits) to the water line - what is that depth?
I'm at 13" for the total water depth. The skimmer is sitting on 2" of PVC pipe to raise it up however. So base of skimmer up to water line 11".

Recommended water level is 9.5" from bottom of sump to the water line. Your skimmer is to low. You will need to raise your skimmer about 4" to get max performance. Your skimmer is working but in so much water it's just filling cup to overflow. You could get a skimmer stand. A buddy of mine is giving a couple away. I think I saw you on the SoCal forum. His name is pandimus and he has a thread on so cal reefers.

I wouldn't raise it by PVC, might not be stable in long term. Get a stand IMO. Also it will only need to be raised about 3.5" after reading your post again. Good luck. It's a great skimmer

LOL yeah I noticed he was giving a couple stands away, the drive is too far however. PVC underneath is totally unstable. Thanks for the good advice!
