aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

The plate in my bubble chamber is tied down solidly with the two screws. Apparently yours is not tied down -- floating like in your video.

By the way, the deal from Big Al is amazing for CO-1.

I agree an excellent deal & if it doesn't perform correctly I can always sell it, but I'm hoping it works out - the footprint is perfect for my sump

Do you get a lot of splashing from this?

The eshopps sump has a sponge that sits between the skimmer section and the return pump section. I have the skimmer outlet exit right on top of the sponge. If i remove the sponge I do get a lot of splashing. I would like to not use the sponge, but because of the splashing without it, it's not an option.

So I just took out my skimmer to clean it out and noticed something. The base where the skimmer screws in, the 2 holes, water comes out of there. Is that normal? I thought the skimmer had to be completely I closed from the inside? Is that normal?

That is not normal

so I have had my skimmer running for roughly a week now, and I am still seeing a lot of micro bubbles... is this normal? will the bubbles eventually disappear?

Not having any micro bubble issues myself (and never did.) Do you have a bubble trap in your sump to let them settle out?

I realize this is a thread for the CO-1, however I have a CO-2 and it's incredibly loud. I've had it for roughly a year now and was hoping it would quiet down, but it hasn't. It sounds like the pump is vibrating against the little white stand it sits in.

Anyone else have/had this problem?

Any skimmer that's pulling a little too much air can put out micro bubbles. The JNS/Aquamax skimmers all do this to some degree. Typically it diminishes once the skimmer is a little dirty and isn't moving as much water.

My HOB-1s, ConeS 1 and Cones 2 all do it. It's completely manageable, just put something in line to consume the bubbles, like a sponge.

Well the Sicce pumps are known for being very, very quiet so it may be that the vibration of the pump is causing something to resonate in your sump or you have a bad impeller that's not balanced. Have you tried placing something under the skimmer to dampen vibration ?

unfortunately no, the sklmmer is in the last chamber of my sump where the return pump is, the other chamber is a refugium so i cannot place the skimmer there either...

i was thinking possible putting some kind of foam pad around the outlet of the skimmer... seeing as how that is where the microbubbles appear to be escaping the skimmer... any other thoughts?

thanks for your guys' input

Does anyone know what size o-ring is needed to seal the air silencer? I have my co-1 sitting in 9.5'' of water and the little silencer chamber is filling up with water. I have teflon on the screw and a o-ring on the silencer but it might be a little small as it fits snugly around the inner side of the cylinder groove on the silencer. Should I try a different size o-ring for a better fit?

Just got the ConeS co1 on my 50g with 5 small fish. I think it's safe to say that it's broken in. Check out the thick foam that's filling up the entire cup. It is such an oh so satisfying sight to behold. I find myself looking at the skimmer working even more than the tank. Admittedly I was a naysayer but now I do believe!

Try some silicone grease on the O ring. That has always worked well for me on sealing O-rings on skimmers.

That worked! Thanks for the idea. I love this skimmer so far. I am not getting the sludge that everyone else is showing but I am getting a dark watery skim. I hope it improves as this thing breaks in as I have only had it set up for about 5 days.

I added three new filter socks, the skimmer has been going crazy for 3hrs.

How long should it take for the micro bubbles to go away?
