aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

I set up the skimmer last night and I wish I would of bought this a year ago. I can not hear it run, it looks cool, I gained more room in my sump, and best of all it already has about a half inch of tea colored skim from last night. This skimmer is in a completely different league than my RO NWB 150.

I'm running it wide open for a bit and hopefully by the weekend I can start to dial it in.

Thanks for all the advice on this thread.

Anybody used epoxy and have the skimmer go insane? After using epoxy for a couple of frags, I turned the skimmer off for 3 hours. When I turned it back on it was skimming like normal and 10 minutes later it's overflowing like crazy. I had it sitting at 9 1/5" and since it's constantly overflowing I had to raise it all the way to 7" and it seems to slowly starting to calm down.

I have a ConeS CO2 [for about 3 months] and its working very well. epoxy made mine go crazy and it took a few days before I could turn it back on.

The ConeS CO2 looks almost identical to your skimmer with a few differences. 1) The cup on the top isn't at a slant for the overflow. 2) the pump is next to the skimmer instead of under the skimmer.

I have this running under a 96g cube w/ 32g sump about 110g water normally and am height constrained and so having the pump next to instead of under worked better for me. Also i wanted to +1 the skimmer.

Aquamaxx ConeS is really a nice skimmer.

What is the difference between the JNS and the Aquamaxx aside from the price?

nothing from what I can tell:hmm5:

However there may be a slight difference in the magnet assembly. I saw some pics which looked like the magnet was coated. Other than that they looked identical.

I just ordered a JNS CO-1 yesterday. Looking forward to its arrival! This thread was a great read!!

Welcome to the club. Like you, I read the entire thread and agree it's an amazing read. Enjoy your new skimmer. I think I like mine a little to much. I realized last night I was staring at the amazing amount bubbles in the skimmer instead of my tank :)

Glad to see someone else running one on a 90. Tracking says mine should be here tomorrow!!

What is the best way to clean before use, and how long? This is my first "new" skimmer. The last 2 I purchased used so I just did a quick rinse.

I've had the best luck just cleaning with the hottest water I can handle. I cleaned mine for about 10 minutes. I think this does a good enough job cleaning the oils or manufacturing particles.

I was tired of having a plus sized skimmer that skimmed inconsistently. Plus, I'm out of the sticks game and am going the LPS/softie route. For years I've been going the ULN route and never had decent growth with zoas, LPS, or any softie. I just started feeding my corals and adding more of a variety of food for my tank inmates.

+1 for the hot water. just not too hot!

I use a 1:4 distilled white vinegar/water on occasion with just a brush. you can also run it in the same solution at room temp using an open top 5 gal pail if your so inclined. I have seen no appreciable better results with quicker break in times using one over another.

With the recommended water level being 9 - 9 1/2", does that put the water level at or below the air silencer body? Whats better, 9" or 9 1/2"? I need to make a stand for mine because the water in my sump is just over 10". My skimmer is being delivered today, but I was hoping to make the acrylic stand while at work today....

it's all dependent on the bio load you have but yes, 9.5 works perfect for me.

my system has a light to medium load.

If you are on the heavier side of stocking, or your system is larger than say 80 gal, you'll be able to run it lower with great results.

I just finished setting up the co-1. I am super impressed with the quality. Awesome design and super quiet. Can't wait for some nasty skimmate.

I'm thinking of picking up a used Cones CO-2 skimmer for a 165g DT + 30-55g sump (haven't bought the sump yet) system, likely med-heavy load. Will it suffice?

Loving the co-1 so far. day 3 of break in and already outperforming both of my previous skimmers. And to top it off....I cant even hear the thing. I only hear water in my overflow now. Impressive.
