Thats some serious skimate i wish my vertex 130 could even skim that why i am on waiting list for aquamaxx
A quick thought should you be keeping eye on your system to make sure u don't shock the system by pulling out the nasty stuff too fast (just a question)

Good question.I had never thought of that...but I don't think I have ever heard of anyone having issues caused by a new or better skimmer. I'm curious to hear some other responses. All looks good so far.

Yup, and that's why I sold a BNIB Vertex 130 in the middle of my build for a CO-1. BigAlsPets has the JNS CO-1 in stock, it's the same thing but for less money if you don't feel like waiting.

What's the preferred water level for the CO-2? Figure I would find out now before I start making baffles for my sump, don't want to have to raise it with egg crate if I did it right the first time.

I'd set your baffles at 9"

most are having success at 8" to 9".

9 will give you more wiggle room for adjustment either by opening up the standpipe or raising it w/ diffuser. I know you dont want to end up using diffuser, but it's a lot easier to zip tie some light diffuser together than to re-baffle the sump. (-;

Thank you sir for the good info. :)

Is 9.5" too much? I have mine at that level and notice I get water in the silencer. For now I just removed the outer tube. It's surprisingly not that loud even with that removed.

mine is at 9.5 and it works flawlessly.

I too had water in the silencer when I first ran it at that level, but found an o-ring and dropped it in the groove at the base, then put a few wraps of teflon thread tape on the end of the nylon set screw and the "water in the silencer" issue was solved. I have since disconnected the hose from the silencer and just run it w/o. I cannot hear the air suction with my cabinet doors closed and prefer the open tube because I run hot RO water through the air intake weekly.

wow! That's wonderfully disgusting! No wonder you went with the EM300-LOL

how big is the system it was running on?

I am amazed by the dark nasty skimmate that is produced by what appears to be crystal clear water.

My skimmer has been up and running for 7 days now. I have been slowly raising the water/bubble level up over the last few days. I am currently at about 1" below the collection cup bottom flange. Where are you all running yours at? Or is it just a matter of how wet I want the skimmate?

1" below?? are you referring to the foam head or the air/water line? If its the air/water line then that's fine. If it's the foam head then you may be a little low and could develop a lot of gunk in the neck after a while. Take a pic and lets look at it (-;

Yeah, that was some crazy skim for sure. System is a 120g with 30g sump. Probably 125 gallons of actual water. This was taken about 2 months after I initially set it up last year. I acid washed and seakleared my rocks before I put them in the tank and this thing just pulled endless amounts of this stuff out of the water still. I had bought rocks used from some guy and I can only assume that they still had a lot of dead crap in them and over time its pulled it all out.

Crazy, crazy skim for sure!!

several years back I traded some equipment for a bunch of Tonga and had a similar result with my old 840. Not as tasty as yours (:spin2:) but still pretty impressive. I had to watch the skimmer like a hawk for 3 weeks until it settled down. I thought I had the die off under control and clean after quarantine for a week, but the skimmate doesn't lie.

Yes. Opening is approx 3/8" ish....without actually measuring. Awesome. I will take a pic later when I get home from work. I cleaned cup for the first time yesterday. I always thought skimmate didn't smell that bad....until yesterday. Made me happy. Lol.
