aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

Looks like you guys beat me to the punch about the air/water line. My skimmer is working awesome but you know how it goes when you like to tweak. I have gunk building up right ware the cup attaches to the body. I might bump it up a bit.

Here is where I have it currently set at. uploadfromtaptalk1424480003838.jpg

Leave it set where it's at for a while. I can't see the air/water line in the picture. Maybe just my old eyes. To me it looks like the zones haven't stabilized yet so I wouldn't adjust it any higher or you may have a mess on your hands when it really kicks in. The skim looks great though.

Ok I apologize in advance if this is covered somewhere in this thread and I'm too FRUSTRATED to look. So, just give me a comment number if this is covered here...

Everytime I do a water change I clean the cup and the neck of the cup. When I turn the skimmer back on it just fills with water and overflows the collection cup. Even when I open the air all the way to the point of the dial coming loose it's still just a flood. I know others have experienced this, what is the best workflow after a water change? Leave the skimmer OFF for a while? If so how long? Leave the skimmer on and remove the collection cup and let the skimmer just overflow into the sump? I'm hoping you guys can help me out. LOVE this skimmer but I spend more time babysitting the overflowing skimmer after the water change than it takes to do the water change itself. THANK YOU!!

sorry for the late reply

water changes; Freshly mixed salt will usually always make a skimmer go berzerk briefly but should settle down quickly.

the skimmer has no air adjustment unless you have put a JG (john Guess) or TLF (two little fishes) valve on the intake line. So I'm not sure if you may be referring to the water outlet pipe (standpipe) when you mention the dial coming loose. Sorry for my ignorance.

If you are unscrewing the stand pipe each time after a water change then DONT. each time you mess with that adjustment you will be messing with the break in of the skimmer. I would suggest running the skimmer stand pipe at about half open and then adjust in a few days after it has settled down.

What level of water is your skimmer running in? 8, 9, 9.5"?

How long has it been running on your system?

Sorry, but lots of questions

Tivo

My tank has been running a little over 2 months with no skimmer. Tracking says i will get my new Cones Co 1 today. Was on the fence about which way to go buy after reading this thread i am sold on it. I have a 75g dt with a 30g sump probably just under 100 gallons total volume. From everything i read it will be a great fit. Little more money than the RO a lfs was trying to sell me but, I'm OK with that if it's as good as everyone says.

You won't be disappointed. I have had mine for 2 weeks and my tank looks better than it did before. I am even thinking about taking my gfo offline.

Thunderfan, you won't be disappointed. I wish I would of ditched my RO a year ago. It's easy to tune and just works-plus it looks cool.

Sorry for my ignorance.

BELIEVE ME the ignorance IS ALL MINE!! Yes, I mean the standpipe. Ok, I will leave that alone after I get it back to where it works most efficiently.

Looks like it is running at ~9.75

How long has it been running on your system?

Tivo

It's been up and running for probably 6 months now.

Thanks for your help Tivo, it was your input that made me buy this skimmer in the first place and I'm REALLY glad I did, just would love to figure out the best "restart" procedure after a WC.

No problem

can you get a pic up of the internal water level in the body compared to the sump level?

As far as it going crazy after a water change, I would suggest just unplugging it for a couple hours after a WC to let the new solt'n settle out an mix with the old.

If you could get a pic up that would help though.

Got it today, unboxed, and installed. Been running about an hour or so and have about an inch of weak tea looking stuff in the cup. I'm not sure if i am understanding the air/water line correctly but, i can see a line where the real small bubbles turn to larger ones. I have that line set about a half inch or so below where the cup attaches. Now we'll let her run and see what happens.

I'm on the fence on getting this skimmer. Reviews everywhere seem great. I'm just worried it will be too small for set up. I have a 75/15 gal set up. Really heavy Bioload. Anthias. Tangs. I feed 3 times a day. Do you think this skimmer could handle it. The co-02 will not fit my sump area. The pump lph of 360 would be enough? Please advise
Thanks
I currently have a RO but doesn't produce good skimmate. According to coral vue skimmer is too big for setup and won't skim efficiently.

You might be pushing it with the CO-1

don't let the air numbers fool you

IMO it's the most efficient sub 400lph skimmer on the market. It will work wonderfully but with heavy stocking & all that feeding, you will have an issue with the size of the cup unless you run a skim locker. A skim locker may also be an issue if you have sump walls 14" or higher. The skimmer is pretty compact and the drain tube to a skim locker will be almost horizontal at 14.

have you looked around for an EM200?

that would handle it and then some (-;

Thansk for replies. I took the plunge. Ordered AQUAMAXX co-1. Should be here Monday. Let's see how this skimmer does on my set up. At this point I think trying anything would be better than my current situation. Lol
I keep you guys posted.
