Not that it is a great loss because or there prices and service. I stopped today and the place has brown paper on the windows. Just wanted to let everyone know so that they don't head that way.

I liked going in there to walk around, but their dry goods selection was terrible and the fish and everything else were over priced.

they did get nice fish though and really nice specialty items.

way overpriced very arrogant glad there gone

I agree!!

I bought my bio cube from them and When I was asking the guy questions about the tank he was like "i dont know why dont you know? I have no idea how it works" That should of been my first sign. Than I would be in the middle of talking to the sales person and he would walk away and talk to someone else!!

Thats when i stopped going up there.

Wished I had realized they were really going out....they had a tank that looked like a large gumball machine that would have made a fun clown/anemone setup

Never bought anything but whoever made their custom tanks was a real artist. Those tanks were incredible....and their reef-tank from back in the day, wow.

I actually bought stuff there, especially from the original ownership, who was responsible for the custom tank displays you applauded. They would even buy stuff I'd raised, but that was only the first owner. After that, prices went up, service went downhill, and they would not longer even consider store credit for stuff you could raise in your home aquarium. Not a surprise it "tanked". There is extra profit in locally bred stuff. No shipping costs, no shipping stress and losses. Locally propagated stuff is used to local water supplies and looks sharper in the store and sells faster, but does not die, even if so much is brought in that it does not sell out immediately.

I wonder if there is a connection to the papered over Petland in the Strongsville Mall. I know my "Aquarium Authority" membership was through Petland and I think maybe the suceeding owners maintained that franchisee status.

Yeah, unfortunatly I didn't know that until too late. I went there a few weeks ago with a 30 percent off coupon in order to get things normal priced, only to find them going out, and nothing really left. My friend said he heard an employee say the used display tanks are supposedly going to an auction? I have no idea how to trace that down though. If anyone could find that out when/where/if they are auctioning, I'd appreciate it, as I know of someone who is looking for a FW ray tank, and there are multiple which were perfect for that there.
They also said something about costs being too great, 15 grand a month, however I dont know if they were referring to overhead total costs or just rent. Reguardless they were way overpriced, and aside from one employee I know, pretty arrogant.
Not too upset to see them go, just unhappy I missed most of the sales.

When i went there, the GM would follow me around as if I was about to steal something. Don't wanna play the race card but I happen to be Hispanic.

They are not on eBay. You can check local auction houses. The yellow pages or local.com should give you lots of numbers to call and lots of auctions.

The two likeliest fish club auctions are first:
http://www.ohiocichlid.com/oca-winter-auction/

which you could ask a contact there and find out if they know,
or less likely since it's in Akron:

i can understand why their prices are so high, great location facing a major street off a major highway. i bet their rent must be crazy high. as for customer service and tactfulness, theres no excuse. i've always enjoyed walking around their store to see their unique setups. and yes the huge inwall saltwater setup they use to have was amazing with a very nice yellow/black eel. no matter how bad their prices are or their service, it still makes me sad to see them go because it cuts down the options of places to go looking for things. if we only had two really great stores left in the next couple of years think of how much of a hassle it would be to get something your looking for. i rather a have options

aww shoot. I was waiting for the filter exchange. I hate the HOB brand we got for the FW tank. We wanted to switch it out for an aquaclear. The biowheel dumps more crap in the tank than it takes out.

They were one store of a larger company. I was in the store during the last few days they were open and most of the stuff was cleared out - only a few tanks and misc supplies. They had one Biocube 29 left for $260 (closeout price!) and at the same time Petsmart had the same tank on sale for $239. The Manager said they were closing the Cleveland store but keeping the others open in Chicago and a few other cities that I forgot. Somewhere down the line they must have been purchased by a larger company.
