Are maroon females usually mean?

I have a 2.5"-3" one that will eat out of my hand. Doesn't bite me or bother any corals or other fish. Guess I'm lucky. Not sure if she's wild or tank raised.

Are any of you not able to keep corals because of a female maroon?

My female maroon would push anything in the tank that wasn't glued down into the sand and bury it with her tail. Also if you are considering this pair in the 33g tank you mentioned in the other thread you will not be able to keep any other fish. Once paired up and spawning they will kill everything else in there.

I had plenty of corals, just kept a buffer zone from nems, which you want to do anyway.
Mine never harmed fish, just me, few corals I placed too close.

If you're thinking about putting a maroon pair with a BTA in a 33g tank, you aren't going to have a lot a room for a whole lot else. I sure wouldn't think it would be great for your angels if they are in the 33g tank.

I feel kinda obligated to aknowlage that for a while my maroon was very agressive even towards gobies and angels. That was a few years ago, i was forced to remove the clown and put it in a fo tank in 2009 due to agression. After a couple years that tank was taken down and the clown was returned to me and now it is a great addition to the tank. hosts to multiple anenomies and will feed them as well. Idk what to make of her transformation but i believe it has something to do with her age and moving from tank to tank but i will make a video when i get home for proof if anyone needs it.

My marroons were never physically aggressive toward other fish in the tank, but it was 100g and there was plenty of room. The angels were not to be intimidated. They would go into "the territory" give her a look as if to say, "Chill - we are angels and kings of the tank and we're seriously going to come browze on this rock every so often and it doesn't hurt you a bit, so back off" They wouldn't linger too long, though. hehe

My large female (5 1/2") is very peaceful and always has been. She doesn't like you to put things near her nesting place. She will move things around to her liking. She spawns every two weeks like clock work. Her temperament does not change. She is housed with 5 RBTA's which is supposed to increase her aggression. The nems were added years after I had her. The addition did not change her. The only fish she, and he for that matter, doesn't like is a male Lyretail Antheas.

Everyone I am sure is aware of the bad reputation that maroon clown fish have as being very aggressive. They are said to become even more aggressive if they are hosting an anemone.

How they act towards the other fish in the tank may give you a whole new idea of what clown fish can be like. :love2:

I want to share some video of how my clowns behave in my tank while also tending to a clutch of eggs. :eek2:

I must warn you this video may not be suitable for all viewing audiences. Please have all small children leave the room. :uzi:

my pair stresses me out soo much.. but definitely the female is worst..

although by adding a nem it has quieter her down... but she still pitches a bxxxh fit evey so often...

A female maroon is probably the meanest fish on the reef. Try snorkeling over her nest some time. I hope you are wearing a wet suit :)
