Arlin's 120

After an eventful weekend all is well! let me explain...

i woke up early Saturday morning, looked at the tank all was well...went to the kitchen to make breakfast a few minutes later i hear my ATO's alarm going off (high water level alarm) i found that strange...i walked to the tank, the water line was 2-3" below the normal...so i opened the cabinet, the skimmer collection cup at this point over flooded.
all i though was "great !!!!!".....it gets better

i opened my electrical cabinet to check if the return pump got disconnected or something. nope! the return pump is "on" and everything is secured where it was suppose to be. so then i take the pump off line for cleaning.... nothing pump was completely dead! . @ this point i am very stressed!! and upset!

after scrambling and thinking of a quick solution. i still have my old return pump for my 60g that i use for WC . i manage to get it online for the time being! that pump was struggling to keep up with the tank.

in the mean time the mini tank started to overflow! (i closed the drain and did not open it up again ) at this point i was so mad! the mp10 for the frag tank got wet! along with its controller. lets just say i came very close to quitting this past weekend!

after all the madness i got on the phone with TB AQUATICS and they had 1! hydro Bubble Blaster in stock. so on Sunday i took a 3HR round trip to NJ to them to pick it up on a SUNDAY!!!(they are not a LFS)

SUNDAY- after a quick modification to my plumbing i installed the new return pump. so i emailed AQUA CAVE about the issues, luckily the pump is still under warranty and will get replaced. AQUACAVE also had an Excellent response time about my issue. two great company's near me came threw for me big time!

Sunday afternoon i did a 40Gallon WC and that was it!

Lesson: have a back up Return pump !

Wow...that was a lucky escape...things could have been a lot worse.

Seriously, it is for this reason that I will always where possible use the old Eheim pumps...those things are rock solid and NEVER failed on me or anyone else that I know. I use one as my return and if I upgrade it will also be an Eheim. In any event I do have a backup return pump available.

You cant quit over something like this dude...things like this are a part of this hobby.

:D I don't think I can quit even if I wanted too. I was just so upset and disappointed in that pump man! . That was the first time I had a return pump go bad on me. I always try to buy good quality items for this reason. Lessons are learned and life goes on

All I though was "all my hard work is going to go down the drain due to a bad pump"

It's going to make me appreciate my reef even more now :)

Yeah, those moments do definitely make us realise what our tanks mean to us. I always use Milluput Putty (some random UK plumbers brand)...everyone in the UK has been using it for years...the stuff works so well...my LFS gave me some free D&D Reef Putty...used it to glue some frags a few days ago...crap didnt even set...parts melted and some bits got ground to goop when they went into the MP10's...had to do 30% water change right away...skimmer went nuts for a day or two. Luckily no coral deaths. Never using that D&D crap again.

Bump. :) How is the tank doing? You sold your Radion, are you getting a Pro or didnt like LED?

Tank is doing well, work & family has taken most if my free time lately.

I took some pictures a few days ago while doing a water change. I'll post them shortly.....

I did sell my radion...LEDs are not for me . I bough a few basic frags and cut 4 frags from my main tank to compare to the LEDs, the colors dramatically changed when switched to LEDs . The frags browned out , colors changed ...proves to me LEDs are not there yet(IME). I don't want to start a debate on this bc I know there's a lot of ppl that have amazing looking tanks with LEDs, it's just did not work for me.

The frag tank has a 250w MH pendant now that I bough 2 weeks ago . It might sound crazy but I allready see a diffrece in the frags

Bro, you never fail to impress with your SPS pics.

Also, the quality of the shots have REALLY improved!

Are you still using the same T5 combo: 4xBlue+, 2xCoral+ and 2xPurple+ ?

The shot of the Pearlberry is awesome!

Post up an FTS when you can. :)

Thanks !

Yup I'm still using the same combo .I'm going to change the bulbs in the next month I think I'm going swap the coral + to GE 65k. I like the 65k better I think let's see ...

Thanks the pearl berry Is doing so well finally! It took this coral some time to color up and I think it's finally happy where it's at .

beautiful colors. A FTS would be nice when you get a chance ;]

I almost took the plunge to LEDs with a gen3 radion, then last minute went with an 8 bulb ATI just so I know what to expect..

Just found this thread. Awesome clean build. Great photos too!

Just started following you on IG

You got me scared with your return pump issue. I have a Speedwave 10000, which is essentially the same thing. So far it has been great for me, and I do have a backup pump in case of emergency, but its nothing I would keep online full time.

Thanks fellas!

I had a rock slide and knock around some rocks on one side. As I tried to put it back it got worse and worse so I'm in the middle of re doing the rock work. Once I finish I will post one I promise!

Dow: your right those pumps are pretty much the same . I originally wanted a reef octopus pump but when with the DC pump. The pump I had was rated for 2600gph same as the pump I have now and there's a huge difference!..leaves you thinking . Now I run my entire system off my main pump (two reactors & 21g mini)

Btw.. I was using a 8 g container for my water reservoir ..It would last 2-3 days max! . So I got a 37g column tank! I got a local guy make me a top for the tank and boom new reservoir ..well that big thing Does not fit under the tank so.... I drilled a whole in the wall big enough to fit a wire and an ro-di tube. The reservoir fits perfectly under my kitchen table and my tank is directly on the other side :) . I covered the tank in green contact paper (to block light) and labeled the gallons .

Mine is also rated for 2600 gph. I run my tank, 2 reactors, and my chiller all off of it, and I only have it on setting 5. What was your's set on?
