Do you notice loud splashing noise from the breather tube on the gate valve mod? Mine annoyed the heck out of me so I added a cap with a hole drilled on the top and now it's quiet.

I had my G3 Gate Valve Mod done the way you have it right now.......It didn't work very well.....and when the skimmer "went nuts" I couldn't adjust it at all.....this works better

does anyone have a G5 and have one of the 9000pumps recirculating and the other one not?
Dont konw much about recirculating skimmers but i'm thinking that if i use one pump to pump in water and the other as recirculating it'll get rid the need for a feeding pump.
Does this make sense?

John, if you can directly feed your skimmer from your overflow, you can do away with that extra pump altogether!

Bill and Elaine, Thanks for the info, but do you have a better shot of the mod? I purchased this mod through Asmskimmer.com, If I do your mod will I have to cut any of the PVC? I would like to see an entire shot of your mod if possible. Thanks so much

Sorry I don't have a better pic at this time...I'll try to take one this weekend. I did have to buy a short pc.of pipe to do it the way I have it......on my mod I do not use the Gray pipe that came with the skimmer......I have a 6" pc. of pipe going down into the skimmer.......then the Tee sits on top of that tight to the skimmer....out of the top I have a stand pipe that goes up to the collection cup......off the side of the Tee is the gate valve and then a 90 facing down with a short pc. of pipe......hope this helps........my skimmer is due for a cleaning this weekend.....I'll post a pic of the parts when I do it.

Help I just purchased a G3, re-cric mod Sedra 5000, and gate valve mod. I set the skimmer up in my bathtub, about 9"-10" of water and a few cups of vinegar to cleanse the skimmer. The skimmer was producing the finest bubbles I have ever seen a skimmer produce.

Then........I turned the unit off, drained the tub, and put fresh water back in the tub.....I decided to use a 90degree end piece within the chamber, on the output of the re-circ, and turned the skimmer back on...then I removed the 90 degree elbow.

Now all I am getting is HUGE bubbles and nothing else......this is way crazy....the fine micro bubble are gone...the skimmer is just throwing a ton of water around the chamber and nothing else.

I checked everything...the venturi, air is pulling through, checked the needle wheel, all prongs intact, gate valve, nothing clogged...I am totally lost on what is going on...thanks for your help. I will try to post pics of both scenerios...

Normally a skimmer will not produce fine bubbles in fresh water. Maybe the vinegar helped it produce the bubbles earlier but don't worry when you get it in the salt water the fine bubbles will come back.

Can someone tell me what you did or what to do about the pump falling off the skimmer problem. I hate to glue it down and wonder if should be replaced with another gasket or what

rpeeples... I agree with TwistedTiger... the fact that you were getting fine bubbles at first was a fluke from adding vinegar to the water.

What you saw after putting fresh water back into the skimmer is what always happens when you run a skimmer in fresh water.

You should be fine.

Here are a few pictures of my G4X with the recir mod, feed mod, drain cup mod, and gate mod. It's been running in a sump with one small piece of live rock and a bunch of old rock I'm trying to seed. So far I'm impressed with the results, there really isn't much to get out but it is making a nice medium wet foam.

Twisted Tiger and Zig Zag, thanks for your feedback...being the neurotic post purchaser....I actually added salt to the bath tub....and whyla.........fine bubbles started to re-appear.
