i also thought maybe that it was skimming everything so i put my hob on when it quits and hob still skims like it used to lol go figure so i raise the tube all the way to bottom of collection cup well see if that helps
I have the ASM G4, and although currently still running both Sedra pumps, I am also looking for the same information because I would like to go with a sicce or some other pump when the time comes for replacement.
Thanks Robert! I have nothing to gauge it by, my first skimmer. Though, when I asked my wife if she could hear it, she said, "I can't hear it over the other noise." It was so deadpan, I'm still laughing! It's collecting already, just have to adjust to concentrate the skimmate . Very happy so far.
Id raise it up a couple inches. When it breaks in try it in that depth again.
Also I found that by installing a 90 deg PVC elbow inside pointed down then a small piece of pvc to connect to a T pointed at the sides works great. The bubbles get more contact time being disbursed lower in the body adn teh bubbles arent blasting against sides since it is now split off into two directions. The pump isnt pushing quite ( slightly less ) as much water through due to the bend and lower disbursement. While that sounds like it might be counter productive I actually had my G4XX kicking butt like this, better than stock for sure, so slowing down the flow and redirecting it lower in body was actually quite productive.
