Thanks Captain! IT seems to be collecting pretty good now, I'd say 0.25" to 0.5" a day. I don't have a huge bioload. I assume that is why I'm getting tan skimmate and not the coffee-colored I have seen in some pictures! I may try your alteration at some point. When I break it down to clean I'll have a look...
Thanks for your suggestion and help!
David:)

Cool! glad I could help! Its too bad these Asm's dont come with drivers manuals! :eek2:

Thanks for the pic. What do you think about just using an ell and pointing it toward the side of the skimmer? This would give it a swirling motion and would limit turbulance. This is how my old and huge air injected (becket)? skimmer was set up

Thanks

I've recently purchased an ASM G3 skimmer which has the gate valve mod on the outlet, and I'm not sure exactly where the foam line should be in the neck of the skimmer. If anyone could show me a pic or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks in advanced!

tried that, tried point at different angles as well, also added a bubble diffuser which I took out.... the swirling action doesnt seem to work well in this skimmer. allowing the bubbles to just go towards the two sides and then work their way up worked best for me, its like a milkshake in the body with a bubble diffuser. hey for about 2.50 in parts you can give it a whack :hammer:

for me, gor the G4XX which is really the same skimmer just more volume, I found the best was about 2 inches below the bottom of the cup, so about halfway up the tapered section.

And a whack it will get.

Uh oh, skimmer trouble!

Uh oh, skimmer trouble!

Hey all. I had to dose my tank with CaribSea Buffer Plus. I had turned off my skimmer until it had settled and when I turned it back on, it goes to the proper level, but the bubbles keep rising and fill the cup in minutes. I am running a wee Mini-G. No amount of adjustment will stop this.

Is this just a surface tension issue that the buffer has done to the water? I have been without the skimmer now for almost 2 days and I don't like it! :worried2:

Has anyone experienced this?

What is your ph and kh now ? Sounds like an overdose. I had an issue like that with kordon aquaplus where it foamed all over even at the prescribed dose. Had to raise my skimmer higher to stop it and allow the skimmer to remove it. Actually had to lower level to half the body height to avoid overflow in the cup. Of course kordon told me that it wasn't their product that did it but everything was fine before that went in. Live and learn. I got thought it.
U might want to consider a water change to get undercontrol. I use Arabism reef buffer when needed and never had an issue

Thank Captain,
I didn't take kH, but my ph went from about 8.0 to 8.2 over 24 hours. I did a 10% water change last night, and will try it again tonight. My problem is I blindly followed directions, instead of just trying a small amount to see about any adverse effect. I'll check levels again tonight. Thanks for your help!

That's not a major jump at all over 24 hours. You might want to call caribsea and report the issue. My ph fluctuates .2 points between am and pm easily no adverse reactions.
Not sure where u live but having the house closed up all winter affects the ph due to higher co2. I have my air intake coming in from outside to my skimmer and thst has mAde a big difference. I only use the buffer if it drops to 8.1 during afternoonthwn I boost it back to 8.2 8.3 but that is maybe once a month now. Good luck. But check your kh.

Gee,maybe I should sell my ASM recirc and buy a more expensive $400-$600 cone skimmer.
Ummmmmmm........I don't think so.

Without trying to hijack this thread, most buffer solutions contain borat or similar elements which will bring up the Alkalinity rapidly. IMHO, stop obessing about PH. You are much better worrying about KH and making sure it is within optimal range. Trust me. I learned this the hard way.

Now back to ASM skimmers !

cleaning out my in box and seen reference to this link. Thought but up again as pictures of BP mod.

Is there anyway to run a GSM 2 out of the sump? I just bout one for 1.00 and it needs a new pump but I measured my sump and I think it wont have enough room to fit in it. I think it will be to high. I currently have a Berlin skimmer plumbed out side of tank because it was to tall. Please help me with this. Thanks!

Thanks,
I should have elaborated! I added something (Stop parasite) that, even when added to well buffered systems, slowly drops the pH. I checked the pH 2x a day, and when the pH dropped from 8.1 to 8.4 over 24 hrs, I got concerned. The CaribSea additive, stopped the drop, but also interfered with the skimmer, which is now behaving fine. KH, pH and alk all where they should be now! I added Ali G instead of Borat! :D
